Look under the section should I buy a MAC.

Do the Dell computers come with Vista or XP?

All Dell computers are customized to suit your needs. When you call or log on you can ask for that...

wow Dell rep, never saw one around here. When will Dell start offering Ubuntu for laptop?

Dell recently made the announcement that it was going to offer Ubuntu with select desktops and notebooks. The projected date is late this month...I will continue to update this so as to be more concrete. You will be able to purchase a Dell notebook with Ubuntu in time for school though...:)

Ubuntu is a Linux- based operating system that allows you to have the “best of Mac and Windows worlds.” It offers

• The security and look of Mac
• The ability to run a multitude of programs with ease
• The ability to dual-boot with programs such as Vista so as to have the best gaming experience
• The ability to customize your desktop
• The opportunity to save money as it is virtually free

awesome I hope it's going to be cheaper than the windows counterpart. Will it come with all the standard programs like open office, gedit, etc?

and how about the MP3 codec do we have configure that too, or will Dell install everything on it.

The security and look of Mac

[/quote]

Security is there but the look remains protected by a slew of copyrights and patents.

the point is that the screen looks interesting, contemporary and sophisticated.

So Ubuntu offers "the look of Mac," also described as "interesting, contemporary, and sophisticated"

And the Dell rep has just conceded that Macs look "interesting, contemporary and sophisticated."

I swear my Apple Campus Rep job does itself ;)

haha the screen absolutely does look great!

Windows doesn't always think pretty until now...I would say go Dell with Vista or Ubuntu!!!

Are computers taken to classes? I have a primarily desktop laptop, and since it's about four years old, I was thinking of updating with another one, but if students generally take around smaller laptops to class, should I get a small one instead?

It is much easier to have a laptop. The size doesn't really matter; however, I personally like laptops that don't weigh more than 6lbs for the sake of my back. I have seen people with very very small laptops and those with huge screens. Since the campus is wireless, I would recommend a laptop simply because it is portable and it is much easier as far as transporting presentations, going to meetings, and taking notes in class.

Or, if you prefer to get stuff that you actually WANT with your computer, you can get a free iPod nano with your Mac.

;)

When purchasing a Mac you DESERVE a free Ipod and lots of free other things!!!
