Dell differences?

D decided to stick with Dell laptop. Am comparing Studio 15 and Inspiron 15.

Both with Intel Core 2 Duo(2.20 GHz) processor, 4GB Memory,320 GB SATA hard drive, same OS, same video card, both internal webcam with facial recognition.
Differences:

Studio 15:
Has back lit keyboard, dell wireless 1397 802 11 g half mini card, dell wireless 370 Bluetooth Internal (2.1)

Inspiron 15:
Dell wireless 1515 802 11 wireless N-mini card, dell wirellss 365 Bluetooth internal (2.1), Integrated 10/100 network card.

I am clueless with computers but both seem pretty comparable and price difference is $18. She does not play games and will use the computer for word processing, music, watching videos, surfing ,photo editing and storage, etc.

Are the above laptops overkill or adequate? Any real differences between Inspirons and Studio lines???

What about weight? That’s going to be a huge factor when carrying that thing around.

do not underestimate utility and luxury of a backlit keyboard

Studio is just a tad lighter. I doubt she carries this around on a daily basis. Mainly needs it for travel for athletics.

Backlit keyboard could come in handy when traveling.

Do the specs look ok?

whats the price tag?

Are you buying this through the Dell website? Son has the studio 15 (15.6" screen) and it’s nice. I would up the wireless to the Intel Wireless 5100 (N wireless), get the backlit keyboard, up the processor to the P8600, and not get the facial recognition (you can order it without it). Seriously consider getting the Complete Care coverage if she is taking this to campus.

Also, just to let you know–if you order the Black Chainlink cover for the Studio, it’s glossy. For this reason, son opted for the midnight blue.

Yes, ordering through Dell university section as college gets a nice discount. Will reconfigure with nysmile suggestions and see where it puts the final price.

Good luck. We ordered it through the regular site because at the time, the University site didn’t offer the Vista Premium 64 bit as an option (at the time, only offered the 32 bit). He increased the processor to the 8600 and 4 gb of Ram so Vista 64 bit would run smoothly. He didn’t want the facial recognition software because he didn’t want something to go wrong with it and lock him off of the computer. He also chose the 256 Radeon video card.

Go with what fits your budget. I would definitely choose the Intel wireless 5100 over the Dell card, the backlit keyboard, and the faster processor. Other than that, adjust to the best configuration within your budget.

Got it ordered! Actually called to get some answers to a few questions. Glad I did! Got a few hundred dollars off even with a few extra upgrades.

nysmile…It was less expensive to keep the facial recognition. They said just don’t turn it on. Upped the wireless and processor. I feel good about the deal!

Congratulations! Hope it works out for you. Son has had his for a few weeks and it runs fast, smooth, cool, and he hasn’t had any issues with it. He’s not a gamer or an engineering/math/science/media student so his computer needs are rather basic. DVD movies look very good on the screen and the sound is also very good. Of course, we can’t look into the future but so far, so good.

What color did you order?

Girly purple. ;)

They give you discounts just for calling? :O

They were able to give discounts that didn’t show up online.

^purple will look nice. Good luck.
