Demonstrated Interest Email after submitting application?

Is it necessary to send demonstrated email interest emails to schools after you apply?
I don’t have anything new to add to my application, but have been told to send emails to my RD schools showing interest.
I’m trying to write the emails, but they just sound odd since I don’t have anything new to add.
Thanks for any advice

No, if you don’t have anything to add, don’t email. You can demonstrate interest by following your schools on social media, opening their emails and going to provided links, signing up for their zoom presentations, etc…

The Washington Post reported that some colleges hire services that track which emails you open, where you browse on their websites, etc. See https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/10/14/colleges-quietly-rank-prospective-students-based-their-personal-data/

And if you’re using privacy software or practices, usually a good idea, then you want to avoid them for colleges. Accept and don’t clear cookies, don’t use incognito browsers, etc.
