Demonstrated Interest

I was wondering how I can demonstrate interest in WashU. It's one of my top choices for colleges, but I live in Hawaii. My family told me that they won't let me visit colleges until after I'm accepted, so visiting is out of the question.

What are other ways I can demonstrate interest?

Although the application doesn't require it, I wrote a "Why WashU" essay detailing why I really liked the environment, academics, etc. of WashU & why I thought I was a great fit. Also try to get in contact with your regional representative & ask them questions.

i think applying for the scholarships (which i really regret not doing) and attending any info sessions in school could prolly help

You shouldn't have too much of a problem with not showing interest unless you have the qualifications to be accepted into HYPSM, in which case they're going to waitlist you to keep their yield rate high.

Ask for an alumni interview - even if they can't arrange one, asking for it will "show interest".

srunni- there are plenty of people of that level that show no interest, at all, yet still get into washu.

I know a lot of people at that level that got in that showed no interest and were only using it as a safety (ironically one of those who got into Harvard ended up choosing WashU... even though WashU had been her safety).

srunni your statement perpetuates a CC myth. WashU, like many other schools, prefers students who have it as their #1 choice. Seems to make a lot of sense to me. I know of quite a few students that turned down higher rated schools for WashU (mine among them). If WashU feels that a student does not seem to have a genuine interest in WashU, but is just sending in an application, yes then there is a good chance of a WL.

That being said, a good way of showing interest is to apply for scholarships. It takes a little bit of extra work, but is well worth it in the end. Mine never visited, never had an interview, but did apply for multiple scholarships. Not only did it have an impact on the admissions decision, but it also resulted in scholarships.

For a list of the scholarships go to: Scholarship Programs At-A-Glance
Also, don't forget about the Danforth Scholars program. It is not on the list above and your GC has to nominate you for the program. Applications are available from the admissions office and are due early in the fall of your senior year.
