I’m taking IB Classes, 400 community services hours, 3.0/4.0 GPA, average test scores, and have been deeply involved in clubs. Placing at District, State, National and World competitions. What did I do wrong or what didn’t I do"?
What is your question? Have you applied to some colleges and been denied? Re-read your post. You’re not saying anything.
I’ll go ahead on a limb and assume you’re asking why you got rejected to a school or a couple of schools. Based on what you’ve stated, it’s likely due to your low GPA. Despite your solid ECs (again, assuming here because you’ve failed to give much information), a 3.0 is on the very low end of top schools, and try as you might, a stellar essay likely won’t save simple academic stats.
“3.0/4.0 GPA, average test scores” – this is the primary criteria of all colleges. Not your vol hours or your competitions or honors. Shed ECs which keep you from your P-sets, homework, test studying and ACT/SAT prep.
Stop your vol hours and your clubs. They don’t need you that badly. You need to serve yourself. An extra handful of As will mean a HUGE amount for you and your future.
Due to your GPA, the sorts of colleges that would consider you are the exact non-selective ones that don’t evaluate vol hours and ECs.
The school I applied to has a 59.2% acceptance rate. They denied me with the reason of Academic Expectations
You are better off anyway - I wouldn’t want to go to a school that can’t spell.
Without knowing what school and your actual test scores, no one can help you.
“They denied me with the reason of Academic Expectations” You didn’t meet the school’s criteria due to academic reasons (your GPA and “average” test scores). The school accepts students with much higher academic achievement & potential than what you’ve shown.
“What did I do wrong or what didn’t I do?” That’s besides the point. Now you need to apply to a broader set of colleges with lower admissions criteria if you’re intent on being at college in the fall.
Or seriously consider this: community college as a good transition. You’re a 3.0 GPA HS student facing MUCH harder college level classes – and you’ll be paying a lot for them. Do you want Bs and Cs in your college transcript? Maybe take on CC classes for a year or two to get your bearings and then transfer into a 4-year college. No shame in this. And you won’t be in debt for tens of thousands with poor marks on your transcript.
Good luck to you. And stop the ECs that don’t advance your prime goals. You’ve mistakenly thought that the ECs and vol hours were more important than 0.3 more on your GPA.
You have about 5 threads, all of which provide almost no information about what you are asking. If your applications to college followed the same trend as your threads, I am not surprised that the college would deny you entry.
3.0/4.0 GPA, average test scores
What’s “average test scores”? You explicitly revealed your GPA, yet elected to conceal your true test scores. Why? Is your GPA exactly 3.0 or is it in the 2.7 - 2.99 range?
I concur!!!
In May you posted that you got caught cheating. Did your guidance counselor include that on your transcript? I’ve never heard of a school giving a reason for a denial before, but if the cheating was noted that may be the reason for it.
This is off-topic I know but finally feel the need to ask this question. I have seen many references from posters in the various threads I’ve read referring to the content of the OPs other posts. However, when I click on a poster’s user name I am taken to a page where I can message or ignore them and see various stats about their account and posting activity. But I don’t see a link that takes me to their previous threads. How does one see an OP’s other posts? Do you have to have reached a certain “level” within the forums before you can do that? Thanks for any insight.
