rejected: bu’s summer research internship
accepted: bu’s summer honors program (w/e this is so stupid and i have to pay so much… and it doesnt even help on college apps)
pending: rockefeller’s summer high school outreach program (first choice… but now that i got rejected from bu’s summer research internship… i think i’ll prob be rejected from this one too)

now i need to rant a bit… i just dont understand how i got rejected from the bu’s summer research internship program… i had 2390 sat scores, 800 chem, 800 math ii, straight A math grades + i was the first person in my school to ever accelerate and take bc calc in 10th grade (granted its not very prestigious at other schools but i was the first in my school which must say something), straight A science grades plus i’m taking the most challenging science course avail to me (my school isnt very science-y so maybe it just didnt seem so impressive…) and good grades in all my other non-science/math subjects. and extracurriculars… i had hospital volunteering (and i volunteered at a hospital that was exactly in the area i wanted to research in), math team (and thats really all the science/math clubs offered in our school)… my school really doesnt provide much opportunity for science/math research and i emphasized that in my letter. oh and my teacher rec shouldve been good. and… i just dont understand how i didnt get in.

and this program isnt even that selective. maybe … i’m asian, needed financial aid… and they just didnt like me.

ugh ■■■

Two things that could be the factors in your rejection; being a rising junior and needing financial aid. Most internship programs want and have bias for rising senior and in this bad economy they are cash strapped so they probably would be more inclined to accept people who can pay full. I think next year would be better for you so don’t give up. With that kind of stat, I would instead go for internships that are free or pay you money like RSI, Clark, NIH, Roswell Park, Jackson Lab, etc…

Summer Program :: Equinox [my first choice]

It’s not too late. You can still apply.
