Denied from all CUNY schools I applied to?

I have a 3.3 GPA, and a 1210 sat score. Not the best stats, but not terrible. I applied back in October. I applied to Queens, Brooklyn, Lehman, Hunter, Baruch, and City College. I was denied from all 6. How is that possible. I was able to get accepted into Fordham University. Are these colleges just a lot harder to get into than I thought? I’m also not from New York. I’m from Pennsylvania, but only a couple of hours away from NYC. Any advice?

*My cousin was admitted to Hunter college with a 2.8 GPA, but he’s a New York State resident. I think they’re more strict with out of state students

College admission committees are a funny bunch of squirrels. There’s no real uniform…anything! Also, Fall semester is usually the most competitive semester. You might stand a better chance if you wait for the spring semester.

I’m surprised you got into Fordham in the early round with those stats.

You are low for Baruch, but I m surprised about Queens College. I know people with lower SAT’s that got in.

In-State has a higher priority then out of state.

@happy1 I was shocked too. Lol I won’t argue with them though

If I’m reading this correctly only 4% of students in the CUNY system went to US high schools outside NYS.

Well 2 years ago I was denied from senior CUNY Colleges because I had a 65 in my Math regents, I needed at least an 80 to get accepted because they do not offer remedial courses. I went to BMCC, a CUNY community college, got the remedial taken care of and graduated with an associates degree. Now I applied to the senior college CUNYs again and got accepted. Maybe there was a regents score you did not do well enough in?

Just a thought:

The Excelsior Scholarship may be coming into play here. it’s entirely possible that CUNY schools are accepting large numbers of kids who might not otherwise have the money to attend college.

I hate to make this political, but I can see how the fallout might be a problem if lots and lots of kids applied to schools, anticipating a free education, but didn’t get in anywhere. Schools in the SUNY system mostly include room and board; CUNY schools are with a commuting distance for NYC Kids. I can see how they might edge out someone out of state.
