I just got denied from the architecture program at UIUC with a 3.5gpa, 26ACT, and top 20% class rank..had what i thought the best essays i've ever written. What are my options now? Re-applying at the university...i don't think i have a chance anymore, what about an appeal? How does that work?

im really sorry to hear about that-though i am sure you'll still be happy wherever you go

i dont think you're even able to apply to any university more than once in one year. though you can always transfer to Uof I next year.

Sorry. :( I wish I had some helpful advice for you, but I have no idea.

I went to UIC for their preview program. In my opinion, you should apply and go there. They said they had a top rated architectual program and I mean if you think about it, it makes sense. It is in downtown Chicago and Chicago is like where architecture was born. Even though U of I is a top rated school and UIC is one step down, U of I is basically for engineering and business kids. My sister majored in architecture at UIUC (or was it art...) and well... she kind of went crazy and droped out at the start of her 4th year (I know!) Also, from my knowledge. UIUC art program isn't exactly the best there is.

i actually shadowed a girl who is a senior at uic doing architecture and i kinda enjoyed it there. i did hate the bare concrete campus...and i really wouldn't want to commute there every day from near O'Hare, but its something i'll have to do. I'm sending my transcripts there the first day i get back to school, which is on tuesday. But now that U of I denied me, i'm being paranoid that UIC would reject me too.

yea, UIC is kinda fugly. but you know it is kind of a nice night life. 26 should be good to get in there. You might not get into the honors program or GACCP but still, better than nothing.

i'm gonna go through the appeal process for U of I, but now getting into UIC would be the biggest relief. Sending all my stuff in now....kinda late? ehhh.

Another thing, does anyone know if UIC will/can cross check UIUC's applications? As i had said, the 2 essays i wrote for UIUC i thought were immaculate, so i combined them both to make my personal statement for UIC. About 2 paragraphs are identical to the content for the UIUC essays, and i'm worrying that this isn't the wisest thing to do. My application isn't submitted yet, so i can still change stuff. Any thoughts on this?

if anyone would like to read it and tell me what they think, i'd greatly appreciate it, thanks

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the essays. I used my essay multiple times...or at least parts of it. Everyone does it.
