Denison Regular Decision 2022

Hey everyone! I thought that I would make a regular decision discussion so we could all talk since there wasn’t one made yet!

Any one know when decisions come out? Looks like EDII came out already

Usually mid to late March.

did y’all get the email about the optional supplement too? If so, are you going to do it?

I sent my optional supplement a week ago. However, I’ve stated that my EFC would be just $7500. So, I am pretty sure that I’ll be rejected.

@maddie313 Are you talking about the “Why Denison?” essay? That came as a surprise to us. S was not expecting any more essays!

My daughter did the optional essay and I agree, it was unexpected. It makes me think they got a lot more applicants than they expected.

@bipulpro , actually don’t be discouraged about aid. Have you seen Denison’s endowment?! It’s massive. Much larger than some of its higher ranked competitors.

@bipulpro my EFC is even lower and I’m hopeful!! Let’s see…any idea about the approximate notification date?

Denison is really nice when it comes to aid. I mean even my counselor told me not to worry.

That’s a relief then.

I am an international student with low EFC (nearly $8000). So, do you think that will significantly hurt my chances?

So I got the scoop from an alumna who has contacts in admission that the reason that Denison sent out the optional essay was because they received over 8,000 applications this year, more than they have ever received.

8,000? That is insane, almost double their normal. Wow, that worries me.

Applications for last year’s entering class, class of '21, was over 7000, so sounds like continued increases in applications. Over the past several years, increases in applications have been hovering around 10% per year.

Just got back from a visit to Denison with my son. Really nice place and definitely moved up his list. Admissions counselor said RD acceptance decisions and financial aid info will be sent out together on March 15. If I remember correctly, they said they have filled 60% of the incoming class through EDI&II.
We hadn’t signed up for an interview (interviews are done by senior students), but they set it up while we were there. Glad we did now that I see they received 8,000 applications to fill a class of 500.

As far as financial aid goes, they emphasized that they are one of the few schools that is both need-blind admissions and meets 100% of demonstrated need. So if you get in, the aid package should be relatively good.

So 8,000 applications to fit roughly 230 spots. Basically getting into Denison is about as likely as getting into an Ivy League school. I knew that their under the radar status wouldn’t last long. Too bad. My daughter really wanted Denison.

Last year, acceptance rate was about 37% with over 7000 applicants, so something over 2000 students were accepted. With 8000 apps, the acceptance rate will probably drop a little further, but there will still likely be over 2000 students admitted. The entering class is about 550-600 students.

Keep in mind, Denison is about much more than stats for admission, it really seems to be about identifying students who will embrace “life on the hill.” If you read some of President Weinberg’s commentaries on Huff Post, there is an emphasis on creating a culture which embraces “living with/communicating across difference.” So, for prospective students, hang in there.

@Midwestmomofboys thanks for the reality check. That is so true. I must have had a brain hiccup with my last comment. It translates to roughly a 25% acceptance rate, which is still very competitive, but not impossible.

Hey guys, I got in ED1 and I didn’t have stellar stats, but I made it known that Denison was my first choice and that I really, really wanted to go there. @Midwestmomofboys is right, I’m pretty sure stats aren’t as important to admissions as creating a welcome campus atmosphere is. Good luck to all of you guys!
