Does anyone have any info on the quality of the theatre and/or music at Denison University, as a possible LAC for exploring musical theatre? D has been accepted to several great BFA MT programs as well as to Muhlenberg, but is still considering pursuing a double major (psychology/music or theatre) BA and loves the feel of Denison, where she has also been accepted. Just not sure about the quality of training she would find there... anyone know?

I don’t know anything about Denison, but Muhlenberg allows you to double major and they have a great theatre department.

Denison’s theater program has a good reputation and some high-profile alums (Jennifer Garner, Steve Carell). My D has some good friends who graduated from that program a few years ago–those who wanted to pursue theater have worked in Cleveland, Chicago, etc.–more important, perhaps, they are great, smart, well-educated people who loved the school and the department.

That is so helpful, thanks. I also noticed and thought it was exceptional that they have a Singer’s Theatre Workshop which rehearses twice a week for 1.5 hours and performs a full musical each semester. It can be taken all 8 semesters and is taught by the chair of the vocal department. There is also another musical theatre production each year through the theatre department. Sounds pretty good for a LAC- the only question, of course, is the level of training offered as well as the abilities of the students in the productions. Seems like it could be a possibility, though. D is having second thoughts about limiting her focus so much at this age, even though her acceptances are to wonderful BFA MT programs within liberal arts programs.
