Hey! I’m in college right now it’s my first year and my major is biology, I want to become an orthodontist but not sure where to start my advisor is not best at giving advice and I don’t know anyone that is going into that field so I just want to know from people who are in that field. It would be great for me to know more information about dentistry. Thank you
It might be helpful to look at some websites for dental schools (Stony Brook, UPenn, Buffalo…) and see what their admission requirements are! There will be pre-reqs you have to take, like bio and chem, so you can make sure you are on track for admission to the typical dental program. Also, if you can do any shadowing at a dental office over the summer/winter breaks, that’d be great.
Hi. I am a dentist and went to Tufts. I am on the alumni board and can try and help. My nephew is going through the process of applying. I know a lot about the Boston dental schools
Getting in is hard as their are over 5000 students applying for 200 spots. I know they want 3.8 gla , now wanting a masters if you did not do well on the dats or not that high a gpa . They want volunteer work. Boston university is easier to get into. Harvard is 5 years and mainly research. Tufts has the best clinical program over bu. Bu is also going major reconstruction for the next four years I hear so that won’t be fun. Please send any specific questions
Ortho is great. The hardest specialty to get into but is very lucrative when you get out.
Research the future of dentistry. The landscape is really changing with insurances trying to take over and corporate businesses taking over.
I know when my nephew wanted to apply we went to see the admissions dean at Tufts he told him exactly what he needed to do. That was very helpful.
Mostly shadow orthodontists and talk to dentists about how dentistry will be in 10 years.
Please ask any questions if you need
Thank you sandra
