I’m a high school senior interested in studying film. My current top three choices are DePaul in Chicago, Arizona State University, and Loyola Marymount University in LA. I know the obvious answer when it comes to purely academics i probably Loyola, but they’re a very expensive school. I’ve earned a scholarship that would cover 2 full years at depaul, a schoalrship that would cover 15,000 a year at ASU, and i’m not sure what kind of money I would get at Loyola. If you were me, what would you do and why?
Hey @laurencoa2607 - did you read through and try posting your question on the forums for Visual Arts and Film Majors ot the forum for Drama majors? You might find more folks who have looked at the film programs at those three specific schools. I wouldn’t ask people to decide for you because some people on CC will always tell you to choose the cheapest school (mostly non-arts people) and others will always tell you to “follow your bliss” . Just ask what people know about what each program has to offer so you get the most information.
If I were you I would learn as much as possible about the three programs and figure out which one would give me the basics of what I needed to move on in a film career plus a good alumni network and then choose the cheapest. My reasoning is - you’re looking at a career where contacts and network are super important but you’re also looking at one where you won’t be going out and making tons of money straight off to pay student loans. So I’d be looking for a balance of affordable + career-enabling.
