UT Austin vs. Loyola Marymount vs. DePaul

Hi! I have recently been accepted into UT Austin and DePaul (their film programs as well) and I am waiting to hear back from Loyola. However, I have no idea which to choose! I'm leaning more towards UT because it's closer to home but if I could get any feedback from anyone it would make my choice easier!!! Thank you so much.

Money isn’t my main concern, mainly location and success of the students and how serious the school is. Thanks again!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UT Austin is a good film school, I know little about DePaul. D just graduated this December from LMU. There are many serious film students there and many opportunities for them, she has thrived there. LA is a great location for opportunities in film. Glad money isn’t your main concern, you will need it. Seriously, do not take on deep debt for film, it will just narrow your choices after graduation. Good luck.

Thank you @jtmoney! What is your daughter currently doing?

Freelance mainly assistant camera for some other previous LMU students, some other odd camera jobs, barely paying the rent and food. Most of her classmates are still in school doing senior thesis movies, and she has been working on their movies. She is putting a lot of energy into a musical she helped write, and working on scripts for some features she wants to eventually do, staying extremely busy. Has a couple features coming up this spring she will get paid to work on, but production date keeps moving into the future. Nothing steady, but that is her plan for now.

Wow. It’s such a scary business we are getting into, but I guess its what we love. Thanks!

So I was recently accepted into Emerson and their production major as well (wasn’t expecting it) does anyone have any opinions on them?

S14 was also accepted into Emerson. We visited in early February. He loved it even though it was very cold while we were there. Likes being right in the city of Boston. Liked all the buildings. They took the students to a mock class while the parents got a different speech. He enjoyed the class and instructor. However, it’s very far from home. We are waiting to hear from 2 schools closer to home, but if he doesn’t get accepted to either of those, he will be attending Emerson. One of the schools we’re waiting on is LMU (deferred), if he is only accepted there, we will visit LMU again as he’s unsure between LMU and Emerson at this point.

Hope that helps!
