Hi all! I’m just about ready to submit my prescreen for depaul, but I’ve run into a problem. On their website, they say 1 minute maximum for each monologue. However, I’m having a hard time getting my shakespeare monologue in time. Right now it’s looking to be about 75 seconds. My question is; will that be okay for prescreens? Should I submit and hope for the best? Or should I find a way to shorten it. Another option is I just submit my 2 contemporary monologues (both are under 1 minute) but I’ve heard from students and faculty that depaul really prefers you to do 1 shakespeare and 1 contemporary. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions about this? I know how hard it is to pass the prescreen, so I don’t want a mistake as silly as timing to prevent me from being invited to an in person audition. Let me know!
Call and ask the question. But also rules are rules. DePaul acting is a hard get. Follow their rules. They are set for a reason.
I would follow the rules. I’ve heard of schools not viewing when they see the time goes beyond the rule. It’s not a guideline, it’s a rule. They have plenty to get through. Give yourself the best opportunity.
I agree with others who have stated that you should follow the time limits DePaul has set. My D’s teachers have told us that DePaul is very picky and a tough prescreen to pass, so if passing is important to you, I wouldn’t want to give them any “easy” reasons to decide not to pass you. Fifteen seconds is a lot, IMHO – and I agree that they really want to see one classical and one contemporary. I know it stinks (believe me, we had to record extra times too for certain schools), but you will feel much better about it when you submit if you know that you followed their rules and that you did everything you could to pass. . Best of luck to you!
Just talked to someone that just graduated. Yes, stick to the rules. It’s also to see if you follow the rules. Can lead to can you take direction… Good luck.
@jacobhendrickson My D is a BFA Acting freshman at DePaul and she filmed all her videos following every instruction. Do not go over time.
thank you guys for responding so quickly. Yeah, I’ve decided following the rules is best haha. I’d love to get into depaul and don’t want to mess up my shot!
@NYDreammom just curious… did your daughter use a shakespeare? Or did she use 2 contemporaries
@jacobhendrickson Shakespeare. At the live audition you can choose which one to do, she used her contemporary. It was her favorite audition and she had a blast. Break a leg and happy to answer any more questions if I can. TTS at DePaul is a fantastic program as is being in the Chicago community.
