DePaul BFA Acting, what do you know?

I was just accepted to the Theatre School at DePaul for a BFA in Acting.

I am a little concerned about the cut system. Everything I have read on other posts nobody has gotten the numbers correct.

They accept 42 and cut 16 after the first year people. That's the truth.

Are there any DePaul students that can attest to how this actually works? What if it is a class of 42 studs who do all the work all the time?

Also, how is the reputation of the school? I have heard that it is one of the best in the country, or an honorable mention below the top ten, or the best in the mid-west.

Opinions?

We have researched this question extensively for a student of mine and her parents. The student is now completing her freshman yr at dePaul, BFA Acting. It is one of the finest BFA acting programs, but again, this program must match your style, work ethic and be best fit for you.

What we learned is that kids who are cut, are not achieving the high academic standards needed for this program. Many talented students can not meet these academic standards which are A/B grades in your subjects.

If your academic work ethic has not been excellent in high school, and you don’t feel that you can turn this around your freshman year, then you well may be at “risk” for being cut… and this is not the best-fit program for you.

Also, the faculty wants to see that you take critique and “run” with it. The faculty is wonderful but strident in their expectations of student’s integrating and internalizing “the notes” given to students, honestly and readily.

If you can thrive within these expectations, feel positively challenged, then this may be the “right” program for you. Again, not sure of exact numbers cut, but it is significant. Many talented kids get “off track” academically. DePaul gives a clear message up front, that this won’t work in this program.

Your admission speaks volumes to your talent. Good luck with your decision.
