I want to do alot of performing and/or get a tech major as well, which school, Depaul (sound recording/performance) or NYU (Music Tech/and just get involved in music dep.) would you say I should go to?

I want to get private lessons, perform a ton, be classically trained, practice my arse off etc. wherever I go but which do you think? any insight is helpful, let me know if you need some more info about me.

If you want to do anything professionally with the trumpet, DePaul, no question. If it’s just an interest outside of music technology, whichever you like better in that department.

Yeah I feel like I’m just kinda stuck inbetween the two majors. I feel as though I’m a good player and love the music, but that job market is frightening, not to mention I’m passionate about the tech side of things as well (along with a less frightening job market). Thats the eternal question for music majors it seems though! It will all work out in the end I suppose.

Well, if you don’t feel like you’re losing too much on the tech side by not going to NYU, I think you’d be in a lot better position trumpet-wise if you ended up at DePaul. Tage Larsen is incredible, and you’d of course be in the same town as Chris Martin, Barbara Butler, Charles Geyer, and the CSO. NYPO is incredible, of course, but I think the Chicago scene still has the brass-mecca thing from the Bud Herseth/Arnold Jacobs days. My line of thinking is that you’d get a good background in technology at either place from your major, but the music side at DePaul might put you in a better position to continue with performance if you find your tons of practice do pay off.
