Hi!
I am trying to decide whether DePaul, Loyola Marymount, or Chapman is best for pre-med.
Chapman is paying for most of my college-only about $6,000 out of pocket. The financial package is great but I have heard mix reviews on the science department.
LMU is my top choice. I enjoyed visiting it and it feels like the right fit, but I will have to pay about $25,000 out of pocket, which is a lot.
DePaul is paying for a lot too. Only about $10,000 out of pocket. I have been accepted into their Pathways for Health and Science Honors Program and their regular Honors Program.
Do you know which school Med schools will like the best? How are their pre-med programs? Does one have more passionate professors in research? Or does one the best opportunities or Labs? I know that LMU has a brand-new update Life Science Building.
Are you a senior right now? Are you sure you can still enroll in these 3 colleges after the May 1st deadline? Did you contact them?
DePaul is looking good for you. Getting accepted to their honors program is great, maybe you will even graduate earlier. The other two schools on your list are more of an “entertainment” school rather than a science/health school.
Are you sure you got those prices right or are you commuting to some of those schools? That is really cheap, what was your EFC or parent’s income?

Med schools will NOT care. All three will be considered as adequate schools.
Premed is not really a “program.” It’s just REGULAR science classes that other STEM students take as well. Nothing unique.
You have nothing to fear about Chapman’s science courses.
What are your parents saying about the cost differences? Can they easily pay the higher costs at one school over another?
LMU is not likely worth it for a premed with less expensive options.
Are you a Calif resident? If not, then go to DePaul. You don’t want to be an OOS premed in Calif
I have committed to all three because I put in appeals for financial aid. I just want to know which school is best for science. I understand that they are all liberal arts school, but is one more worth going to than the others. Do you know anything about the professors. I have heard that Chapman and LMU have passionate professors who are currently conducting research. DePaul professors are more interested in teaching and learning than research.
Cross out LMU. Not worth the cost.
Choose Chapman if you’re a CA resident, DePaul if you’re not. In fact, you may want to choose DePaul even if you’re a CA resident as long as the 4K can be paid out of pocket by your parents.
DePaul is definitely worth it for the honors program. Congrats for getting in! There a lot of internships available in Chicago which will help for premed.
When you say pay out of pocket, do you mean how much you will have to pay after loans?
Is Chapman better academically than DePaul?
DePaul is offering me $18,000 in loans each year which is an additional cost to the out of pocket $10,000. Chapman is offering me about $7,000 in loans.
$18,000 in loans per year make DePaul unaffordable. In addition, where would those loans come from?
You yourself can’t borrow $18,000.
You should stick to the federal limits of $5,500 for freshman year. The closest to that is Chapman.
Can you copy your exact package from Chapman?
???
$18k per year in loans for DePaul? That is crazy. (what are those loans???)
So, now LMU and DePaul are both poor choices.
Chapman is a very good school, and you do NOT have to worry about its science courses. If I remember correctly, Chapman has been looking to add a med school.
