DePaul vs Syracuse for Drama/Acting

Anyone from previous years or currently debating between these schools? Reasons why your D/S chose, or will choose, one over the other? They both seem like wonderful programs though Syracuse will end up being more expensive for us.

Both great schools, but DePaul has an advantage in being located right in the middle of one of the great theater towns in America.

And an awesome town in general

My S was WL at Syracuse and accepted at CCPA (also in Chicago), so we thought about this a good bit in April of 2013. Syracuse offers need-based aid, so that would have helped, and they have some great semester-elsewhere programs in London, NYC and LA. But Syracuse (the town) is really small and remote and kind of depressing IMHO and has one equity theater…meanwhile Chicago has a couple hundred theaters (not sure how many equity). I’m not saying we wouldn’t have jumped at an offer from SU, but I think the kid was better off in Chicago.

You really can’t go badly wrong though. They are both excellent programs. I’d go with the cheaper one.

You are so helpful. This has been such a mild winter that every place we have visited has been unseasonably warm so hard to get a true picture of what winter might be like. We were told that drama students at Syracuse can audition for musicals along with the musical theatre students. I am wondering if they get cast very often. That is a big plus if it is true. DePaul doesn’t do many musicals but such a wonderful location and program. Lucky choices, we know.

If I am remembering correctly - the musical we saw at Syracuse when we visited in 2014 there were several leads/features that were acting majors.

That is encouraging. Thank you!
