Does paying the deposit mean I have to go to UM?

No it means you agree to go to U of M, so if you decide not to, you lose your cash. You don’t “have” to go anywhere.

It would probably be a smart idea not to pay the deposit until you know for sure if you’re going.

You don’t HAVE to go, but, once you pay your deposit, I’d certainly recommend it! Once you pay your deposit, you will be stalked by a Michigan Wolverine that will constantly attack you and follow you for the rest of your life unless you go to the University of Michigan (for undergrad) for four years (he’s known to maul you when you’re ~30 years old, so you’d have ~12 years left in your life if you didn’t attend and paid the deposit). Rumor has it, though, that there is a way to get rid of him (something to do with painting yourself blue and running across OSU’s football stadium in the Mich vs OSU football game with 30 seconds left in the game? Idk…just a rumor!), but, still, I wouldn’t pay the deposit if I were you.

jaykay.

The thing is, there are still a handful of schools I’m waiting on which I’d go to over Michigan, however, if I don’t get in, I want to be assured of getting a good dorm at Mich.

Paying the deposit early will not ensure you get a good dorm. You will be in a lottery with all the other freshmen, you get a few very vague choices like how many roommates and maybe central vs north, and they try to place you as best as they can given what is left when your lottery number comes up. Even if you pick you want a single on central, you may get a triple on north. The only way to ensure which campus you live on is to join a smaller learning community that is housed in a residence hall where you want to be. Still don’t get to pick your room.

buddy this may be random but i think i know exactly who you are by looking at the accepted facebook group
