Barnard
brandeis (parent alum)
UCI
UCSD
UCLA
UCberkeley

Thanks so much!

I have a friend going to Vassar next year. He had very similar stats as you. Mostly A’s with some B’s. similar SAT’s. community service, ran xc all 4 years (you have swimming) he was also into art. so i think it’s probably a good target for you. and since you’re into creative writing im sure you;ll have a great essay:)

if you could look at mine i’d really appreciate it, idk how to link my post here haha but its on the “what are my chances page” called “enough safeties?” and has my username, like the 5 or 6th down. thanks!

SAT a bit higher (:

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1195414-columbia.html

Low SAT and low AP scores aren’t going to help against that low UW GPA for the more selective schools. Just being honest.

Your ECs are stronger than most posters on CC, so that’s a plus. I don’t know if they’re “super impressive” but they are good.

I will tell you that Barnard admissions are weird. When I applied there, I was consistently told that the school would be a safety for me and I should have no trouble getting in; my stats were target/above their averages – so imagine how confused and disappointed I was when I was rejected. (Had a 3.96 GPA, 2100 SAT and strong ECs.) I was also a URM. Very, very strange and to this day I still don’t understand why I was rejected.

You need to raise your SAT as much as possible to try and offset the weak GPA. Here’s what I think would happen if you didn’t raise your SAT.

Amherst - rejection
Carnegie Mellon - rejection
Case Western - rejection
University of Chicago - rejection
Claremont McKenna - rejection
Oberlin - possible rejection
Occidental - possible acceptance
Pomona College - rejection
Swarthmore - rejection
Vassar - possible acceptance
Wesleyan - possible acceptance
Barnard - rejection
Brandeis - likely acceptance
UCI - possible acceptance
UCSD - rejection
UCLA - rejection
UCberkeley - rejection

You have WAY TOO MANY REACHES for such a low GPA. You need to seriously reconsider your choices. California resident or not, those top-tier UCs are NOT going to happen for you as the UCs are strictly numbers-based for admissions.

For UCs, you are better off focusing on:
UCD
UCR
UCM
UCSC
UCI

I can give you some private schools to consider instead of these. Let me know what you want to study, what region and what type of schools (size, etc.)

^ How is UCI “possible” if Brandeis is “likely”?

Is 3.75 your UC GPA? Here are the 2010 admitted freshman profiles for the schools you posted. I thing 2011 will be “better”.

Parental/alumni connection can have more sway. I never claimed to be an expert!

Hi Zelda,

Thank you for your input! I had no idea people actually commented back until I accidentally found my post again.

Yes, I agree. But I find it very unfair that the real slackers at my school make it to Riverside and Merced. Sigh. I guess I’ll have to set my mind on those schools too.

But, yes, I would love it if you could be able to provide me with a list of schools that are Small LAC. I am planning to possibly join their swim team, if that will make it easier for my acceptance.

Thanks! And hope you reply soon! Should I just MSG you?
