Desktop v/s Laptop ??????

BadKarma, what is the point of recommending the largest and by far the heaviest notebooks you can buy? May be great for gamin, but not for mobility. Those things are heavy and take up a lot of room. Secondly you would never buy a Mac to play games on.

And any laptop under 1,000 will play older games like cs and bf vietnam, but newer games are going to lag and/or freeze your computer.

Possibly your parents work for a major corporation? My mom works for bofa and at one point a few months ago, all coupons and discounts added up to 35% of any dell laptop

here's why. The fact that the OP mentioned gaming in his laptop search indicated to me that gaming was one of, if not the biggest, criteria in his search. The fact that the words "budget," "gaming," and "laptop," were used in the same sentence didn't make sense to me either, but I gave advice accordingly. You have to sacrifice mobility if you want to game.

As to your second point, I had no trouble trying out World of warcraft and half life 2 on my friends macbook pro using bootcamp. I never played either, but on the macbook the games looked amazing.

cooladu: for $1000, dell is your best bet. They have coupons that will let you configure a $1500 laptop for about $1000, just keep you eyes peeled for dicounts/coupons. Just don't expect to run the latest games on it.

if he purely wants gaming, there is no need for an apple period. He must as well just start with a pc instead of loading another system that will leave the other probably...well never used. If he wants to game, he wont be using os 10.

Otherwise, if you want to play games at the price, a desktop is going to have to be your choice. Build a decent computer for 6-700 and spend the rest on a screen. Or just buy mine, i have a nice samsung 19" and a setup that will play bf2 on the highest settings smoothly, but with out anti-aliasing

dell is selling its E1505 with the new core duo for $700...seems the best deal if you want gaming since you can upgrade to a 256mb video card.
