Desperately want in bowdoin--chances?

4.2 GPA-
5 AP’s-Chemistry, English Lang, English Lit, Calculus, Spanish
SAT-CR 640, M 590 (low, I know!), writing 700, 12 on essay
Great rec’s and ec’s
Some unique aspects–five years spanish, a year of french, two years of japanese, a summer immersion language camp, an exchange program in Spain

I desperately want to go to Bowdoin. I had an interview which went well, and feel like my essays are strong. Any chances? Forgot to mention–I am ranked 1 (but small school–only 16 in class) and am from Texas.

Any chance–especially early decision?

I think you have a chance, but don't send those SATs. Are you a senior or do have time to retake? Being from Texas may help.

No time to retake SAT if I want to apply early!! So I should not submit, right?

SATs will lower your chances for admission. What did you score on your AP exams? Your profile suggests that Middlebury is a school more in line with your background, but your SATs are below average for this school as well. If you did/do well on the AP exams, then try the ACT test. Consider Franklin & Marshall College, Hamilton College, College of the Holy Cross as well as Bowdoin College. What do you want to study?

So-you think the low sat will be an issue even though Bowdoin is sat optional? Do you not lower your chances (even more)by not submitting them?

Not submitting your SATs should not lower your chances for admission. What it does do, however, is invite more scrutiny of your academic record and what it signifies than would occur if you had stellar board scores. So your chances will depend in part on the reputation of your tiny school and what your good GPA really represents . .

Remember that Bowdoin is an SAT optional school, and honestly, doesn't take SATs into heavy consideration. It will be your GPA, rigor of classes, transcript, etc that will be looked at closely, in combination with your essays and ECs. I'd say that your diversity and in interests in languages will be a nice hook. Couple that with your strong GPA, rigorous AP courses and geographic location, I'd say you have decent chances. What other ECs do you do?

A good essay will be important too.
