Detailed Chances for EA SFS [3.78/4.28 GPA, 2300 SAT]

Hi everyone. I have been pretty much obsessed with the idea of going into the Foreign Service School at Georgetown for years now. I know that it is extremely competitive and I was just wondering what my chances were for admission. I am applying EA.

Gender: F
Race: White
Location: Illinois
College Class Year: enter in September 2010
High School: Private
High School Type: sends many grads to top schools [Rigorous school, average act is 28ish]
Will apply for financial aid: Yes

Academics:
My school does not have class rank and is only weighting this year. It also uses a 100 point scale instead of a 4.0 scale. Any sort of 4.0 scale is a rough guesstimate on my part. My weighted GPA should skyrocket next year with the four AP classes that I am taking.

GPA - Unweighted: 93.570/100

GPA – Weighted: 95.220/100

GPA - Unweighted: 3.78
GPA - Weighted: 4.28

SAT IIs:

[I know my Sat IIs scores aren’t fantastic but I think they are decent enough to not bring down the overall quality of my application. True or not?]

Random Things

 1. I have never received a C on a report card, so there are really no glaring mistakes, though I have received some Bs.
 2. Next year I will be taking four AP classes, which is the maximum you can take at my school. [My school does rough ranking of course rigor and I have the 3rd hardest schedule out of 320]
 3. My essays should probably be one of the brightest spots of my application, since I enjoy writing and I am reasonably proficient at it.
 4. I speak Spanish fairly well, and I am going to pick up another language if I were to place into some sort of Foreign Service program.
 5. I enjoy public speaking and I like to think that I am relatively articulate so the interviews should go well.
 6. I should have excellent recs.

based on numbers and a general feel, you have a pretty dang good shot. nothing is for sure though, but i would say pick the right teachers, put some time into the essays, and you should be good.

I’m not exactly sure if listing specific Model UN awards is to your benefit. I’m definitely convinced specifically listing committees you’ve been in – like the US Cabinet – isn’t much of a benefit to you.

I’m a parent of a student who was admitted to SFS EA last winter. See my posts/recommendations on: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/georgetown-university/709583-do-i-have-chance-georgetown-sfs.html</a>

Obviously my SFS-bound daughter had the credentials, but I spent a lot of time learning about different schools so that she and her twin (who was admitted to Yale, Harvard & Amherst among other schools) would be successful in their admissions.

Please read my recommendations; much of what I learned came straight from Georgetown and the SFS. I hope they are helpful

I would say you have a pretty good chance at Georgetown. Although it is no Ivy, it is unpredictable as well. However, I would predict an acceptance if your essays match your stats
