How do you guys feel about dialogue in the middle of essays (i.e. actual conversations, etc.)?

Is it too childish and unsophisticated?

Why or why not?

I think dialgue belongs in fiction and drama. I can't recall a professional essay that had dialogue.

Who's to say these essays should necessarily be what society deems "professional."

I've heard of successful applicants even submitting poetry as essays.

EDIT: I currently have two essays that contain dialogue, and I'd appreciate some critique!

bump 10char

maybe third person dialogue or descriptive dialogue maybe ?

i.e. "Cody, you are a cool man dude" says Hookem168

could be

I turned to Cody and told him how he was a cool man dude.

I think the essay should sound natural and personal. If the dialogue is incorporated well and it contributes to that goal, I don't see why not.

^ I agree with Syrius. Any others?

I'm not per se against dialogue.
