Dickinson Vs. Syracuse ?

Got accepted to both. Majoring Political Science, maybe minor or double major in English. Studying abroad is important and I got accepted to Syracuse’s first yr abroad in Florence. I’m very torn.

COA for each ?

about a $2,000 difference. Dickinson is offering more money

Really comes down to whether you prefer a small LAC of about 2,350 students or a large private university of 14,600 undergraduates plus additional grad students.

Syracuse offers more options for majors & courses which is especially important if you want to switch majors.

IMO those are two wildly different schools – a 2,350 person LAC and a 22,000 person university with big time sports etc. Assuming the price differential isn’t huge to your family the decision should be based on which environment you want to spend the next for years at. I’d also consider if you want to spend your freshman year abroad. FWIW Dickinson has excellent study abroad options so you will have ample opportunity to study elsewhere down the road.

If you are unsure I’d suggest you go to accepted students day at both schools.

Congratulations! Two great choices.

Have you visited both? What do you think of the two college communities? Where would you like to live?

I’d base it that question. Florence is unbelievable, so that’s great. And you’d be able to study abroad from Dickinson. Even if you did a study abroad year at either, you’d be on the US campus for 3 years. Good luck!

For your major (political science) and interest in studying abroad, I’d pick Dickinson. Study on campus your freshman year when all classmates get to know each other, enjoy discovering the campus.m and life as a college student. Go abroad once you actually know the language and can take classes in your major there (Dickinson allows you to do that through its centers).
