Just wondering, and if you have can you post your stats?

I did as a backup school and ended up getting waitlisted.

Political Science
3.8 GPA
No ECs
General Ed. complete

I applied as electrical engineering and got in.

3.88 at time of application, 3.91 after Fall 2010.
Completed all available pre-reqs and recommended courses at my CC.
No CSU-GE/IGETC

SLO actually doesn’t accept a whole lot of transfers in that I know of. I go there now, and I’d say most either come from the local community college or very few per major from other places. One of my close friends tried to get into civil eng. here and apparently they only take around 15 on average per year, or so I’ve heard.

Edit: Also, Poly cares zero about ECs. Strictly a numbers game here.

@LivsLives:
Do you happen to know about how many transfer students they take in for Electrical Engineering from outside the area? Because last year, two of my friends with 4.0’s and overall better applications than I had were rejected. I really can’t tell what it is that gave me the edge, and I’m also just curious about the percentage of accepted transfers. Thanks!

I got rejected for Biochemistry with GPA: 3.91.

I’m too much in a hurry to look for it, but if you mess around on Cal Poly’s site a little bit, you can find a profile of admitted students type of thing for each specific major. Here is the link for the admitted students of Fall 2010 for the different colleges. You’re right, they take very, very few transfer students.

My boyfriend and I got in (me for English and him for computer science) and I think that is largely owed to our vicinity to the campus. We go to Allan Hancock College, the other local community college besides Cuesta. I applied with a 4.0, 59 units done, IGETC, but very few of the prereqs for the English major at Cal Poly. He applied with about a 3.5something, >80 units completed, CSU GE, and tons of prereqs done.

Rejected with a 3.82 for Business Admin (im from Union City)

Is the transfer acceptance rate to cal poly similar to Berkeley/UCLA?

Seems like it. 3.8 and 3.9 getting rejected… damn.

It also is super dependent on major and year, as they don’t like admitting non-polytechnic majors (anything not sciency, mathish, or ag). Also, each college and major is really super separate, and they like people here not to switch major. No undeclared option. I did a paper on it a few years ago. It probably affects the transfer rate, as they like to see people from start to finish. It’s stupid, and it’s why I’m trying to transfer. Also, as far as the biochem thing goes, I’m a little surprised, though I just found out that department is apparently good. I had never really heard anything special about it until recently. Engineering, however, is by far the hardest to get into. It’s almost impossible to switch in from another major outside the college of engineering, let alone from another institution.

I got in with a pretty low GPA. I had a 3.1. Economics major. It might’ve been because I was admitted 3 years ago in high school. In the welcome video, the president said that there were 40,000 applications for about 4,500 seats so I could imagine why there were so many rejections.

thanks IndieRockNRoll for that link, I’ll search around and see if I can find the info I’m looking for!
