If so, do you think it helped you? Has it shown to be a reliable EC?

I did it for three years and rose to second in command within the second year (still holding the position). I am military minded, yes, but I got into Vanderbilt with it whereas many from my school with higher stats did not.

JROTC has also helped me get a job last summer; being in the program shows discipline and respect.

My friend did JROTC. Read his college essay that talked about his leadership and discipline, and got him into University of Florida despite bad grades.

I did JROTC massively on my resume, and although I’ll never know if that was good (teacher never sent in his rec so I was pretty much waitlisted at every school except UT), I won a lot of competitive scholarships with the same resume, so I’d say it was a lot helpful.

I talked about my leadership positions and explained a little what each one was (Like for Battalion XO I said it was second in command and I did paperwork, etc.), awards the battalion got (gold star unit, explained that too) and the two teams I’d been on (Academic and Rifle) and also the non-generally-issued ribbons you earn (district leadership, academic excellence, etc.) :)

My battalion has a little under 200 cadets.

I started JROTC my sophomore year so when I was promoted to Battalion XO when I was a junior, as a LET II.

I believe ROTC has helped me out so much. I am glad you agree, but I am sorry you didn’t get into the schools you wanted to. (And which UT? Tennessee? Texas?)

Oh wow! Yeah all of staff, cocos, and coxo’s can only be seniors over here it’s always interesting seeing how other battalions are formed lol. And UTexas was one of my top choices because of a program I wanted to get into, and I did, so I don’t have any bitterness. XD

Also, that’s really impressive for having been in there one year and then becoming bnxo! haha congrats XD And yeah, jrotc really helped me for a lot of things, but it’s probably because i’m an asian girl so people don’t expect that out of me…either way, i highly suggest highlighting JROTC in your resume, it’s different (though probably not as much if you’re applying to a southern school like vanderbilt) and you’ve obviously shown tons of leadership best of luck
