Did anyone get accepted as a "January Scholar"?

wbwa, sorry to not get back to you sooner. I do not have, and never claimed to have, an exhaustive list of schools that offer January spots to students. I simply claim, and stand by the fact, that over the years I personally know of many students at a variety of schools (some universities, some colleges, some top 25, some not) who have been offered a spot in January at one of the schools they applied to. I am reluctant to post names of schools from memory, as I do not have the time or desire to start calling families to reconfirm my memory about where these students went. Without doing that, I take the chance of posting incorrect information which I am not willing to do. However, I am 100% positive that the students I am thinking of started second semester in their freshman year.

I think the reason you have never heard of it before is that while some schools specifically offer students the opportunity to apply for January admission, others do not advertise it but still offer it to a limited number of students. My guess is that they don’t advertise it or they would be inundated with thousands and thousands of applicants from students who were rejected or waitlisted and ultimately not accepted--but, again, that is just my guess.

In my opinion, which other schools offer limited January admission doesn’t really matter. Wash U does. Some people got offered a spot, most people didn’t. No one is required to attend.

If you're premed and take the EMT course as HartinGA suggests, then you'll be well positioned to become a member of the Emergency Support Team if you're interested in that sort of thing. EST is a student organization that responds to emergency situations on campus (in cooperation with paramedics from the Clayton Fire Department).

You won't be able to get on EST your freshman year since they only take people once a year and it's very competitive to become a member, but you could apply your sophomore year and if you have your EMT you might have an advantage over other applicants.

Spring admission schools I know of besides WashU: U Rochester, USC, Berkeley, Middlebury

I just leaned that Colby also does the January acceptance, with the first semester abroad in France or Spain (a Colby program). Any info on the programs?

sgcollege- thanks for the info! All I knew is that we were housed in freshmen dorms when we came in the fall, so I assumed they had beds in them. lol. It makes a lot more sense to me now.

Usually JPs are housed in the village; they are not freshmen dorms.

yeah thats when we come in january. but for the 4 weekends we can come out in the fall we get housed in freshmen dorms with air matresses.

I was accepted into the January program too! Does anyone know if the university helps us find stuff to do during the fall semester- will they connect us with study abroad programs or internships?

lsl245: there's a new thread on CC for this year's JProgs lol, but I'll answer here anyway. Lol it's funny to see the thread I started last year come up again and actually be at washu now. Anyway, the university will NOT help you find things to do in the fall. You have to arrange everything on your own. If you go to washu for FSAP, you can make an appointment with the career center to work on your resume/cover letter for internships but they will not help you find anything. You can ask for advice and see what other JProgs have done, but the university won't place you anywhere or anything like that. I mean, it's possible they changed things for you guys, but last year they didn't help us.

I was also accepted by WUSTL as a "January Scholar" and I really think someone at admissions messed up. I was a recruited athlete (football) and by potentially coming to school 2nd semester, I would end up missing my entire freshman season. I'll be calling the head coach and admissions on monday to try and get this sorted out but I'd like to know if anyone else is in a similar situation?
