did anyone get denied from ucsc??

slodad: i am sure the Cal experience is totally different now…long story: when my son was 15 so three years ago, we went on the Cal Berkeley tour, just to show him a big school. Now confession: I went to Cal 64-68, was one of the 800 arrested in Sproul Hall in 64 as part of the FSM, so you know it was different then! Anyway, we go on the tour, lead by a perky, fun Asian sophmore, and five minutes into the tour ( remember we live in nyc) my son says, “Mom, Where are the Black people?” Pretty insightful for a 15 year old. Anyway, he felt it was too frenetic, anyway, like UCSC better. But then a year later he said of Harvard “I can see people’s hair graying before my very eyes.” He wanted laid back and not preppy. Bard is probably the perfect place.

My kid applied. We visited in March. She fell in love with UCSC. The day after we came home from our tour - denied admission. Very sad. We filed appeal. Denied. Again sad. But…she will do the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) at community college and stick around home for a while. She regrets not getting the “Freshman away from home” experience, but…she will transfer and have other adventures in the mean time.

S never bothered to appeal, a few weeks ago got an e-mail from UCMerced stating that because he was UC qualified he could enroll there. UCSC was the only UC school he had applied to. Did anyone else receive that e-mail?

My son got that email from Merced and Riverside.

Slodad, Can’t believe your Son was denied UCSC but got into SLO which is a much harder school to get into. . . Looks like my son will probably go to Depaul in Chicago which he is very happy with

My appeal did not work out for santa cruz but they offered me a guaranteed acceptance for jr year if i got to merced for the first two. but i think if i go to CSU hayward for two years, then transfer, i could probably get into something better. what do u guys think?

Woot!

Originally rejected, appealed, denied, offered UCM-UCSC Shared Experience transfer program, contacted by Admissions director offering me admission because they had space. Going to UCSC guys, sorry you can’t be there =(

Wow! I’m surprised they actually came back around to offer you admission, I thought the UCs were going to be too crowded again this year. Glad it all worked out for you!

arkhound u and i are in the same boat. same exact stuff happened to me. see ya at santa cruz!!!

Cya there!
