did anyone get denied from ucsc??

if so what was ur gpa sat and stuff

I heard of some people that did, but I don't know their gpa's or anything, sorry.

3.44
1620/580/490
D AND F in precalc lol

I'm not sure if I should write an appeal anymore though.I mean I did get a 4.3 first semester of senior year and therefore qualified for CSF, but outside of that I haven't done anything significantly "new".There have been people that say I shouldn't waste my time since they don't have seats reserved specifically for appealed students...but i'm hearing stories of successful appeals.

Is it even possible to say i'll promise to retake the class over the summe at a CCr?Or that math really isn't my thing, I mean I got a 490 on the SAT math section so it's not like i'm slacking of in math+i'm taking AP stats this year and i passed first semester with a C...I never mentioned that in my original application.

^^ I was thinking about your situation today, and I think you should try and appeal. UCLA doesn't accept senior grades, but after reading this, I think they might

"SANTA CRUZ For fall 2003, our campus received 229 freshman appeals and 174 transfer appeals. Of those, we extended offers of admission to 78 freshmen and 116 transfers.

When students ask about appealing their denial, they are told that they will need to present a written appeal that contains new or compelling information that was not included in their original application. Transcripts are also required as a part of the appeal, and a single letter of recommendation can also be included, but it is not required.

Each appeal is reviewed by an admissions officer and then forwarded to a senior official for final decision. There is no set number of admission spaces set aside for appeals; decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

Considerations when reviewing an appeal include the up-to-date academic picture, the information that is contained in the appeal letter and any other information that has been submitted. Appeal decisions are made to assure consistency with all other freshman and transfer admission offers. "

They mention the "up to date" academic picture. If you have a 4.3, I'd say that shows you are doing pretty good.

Rejected =/

SAT: Total 1690, M 670, CR 480, W 540,
Subjects: 590 Physics, 650 Math 2
GPA: 3.0

I'm sending an appeal, I didn't send my ACT (25) with my original application, and since I sent my application, my father lost his job. I notified admissions that I failed my first semester of AP Calc AB and I think thats why I was rejected, but in the appeal I'm putting that I will take the first semester of Calc at my local CC to make up for it.

arkhound, what did it say to you on the site when you were rejected?

Thank you for your interest in attending UC Santa Cruz. Regretfully, we are unable to offer you admission for the fall quarter 2009. We received over 27,000 applications for a class of 3,500 students, and unfortunately, we could not accommodate many fine students.

=( bad memories

s got denied,will appeal,
sat 1820
gpa 3.5

Skadforlife thanks for helping out...and I am going to appeal because of (1) I forgot to include certain things in the original application (2)I have NEW things to include (3)my teacher's awesome recommendation (4) I clearly passed their cutoff pt but was disqualified from the get-go.

I don't think UCs accept recommendations...o_O

letter of recommendation is an optional part of the appeal process

Ohh, I see. That's certainly helpful.

Got denied after I appealed too. ACT Composite: 28 SAT: 1980 GPA: 3.78

I feel your pain. UCSC was my first choice, I wanted to be the first in my family to go to a UC straight after high school, but now I’m off to a community college.

^ I’m sorry to hear that… =/ but how could you get denied by UCSC? Your GPA is above average and your SAT and ACT scores are high. That’s unreasonable, unless you didn’t participate in any EC’s.

My S applied for UCSC, we had a somewhat weird situation; his grades in fresh and soph year not great… sats: 2000, act 31, but he might not have gotten through the door in the grades category, because his private school has no weighted grades, no AP’s but all courses are considered honors and AP level. He put in the application. We paid the fee. UC said it was forwarded to Santa Cruz… we never heard anything at all. At this point, it’s probably moot. He has decided to go to Bard and got a 15K scholarship there, but still, as a Cal Grad myself, who loved UCSC and thought it might be the ticket for him, I am very confused.

morvoren did you log in to the portal and check admission status?

not sure I even knew there was such a thing…

<a href=“CruzID Gold Login - Stale Request”>CruzID Gold Login - Stale Request;

we figured it out… thanks… turned out he needed to have his password reset, and a lot of other rigormarole… had to install mozilla firefox, etc. before we could actually access the site and find out what happened. Rejected, as expected, given than he was not going to get through the grade barrier, despite much better than typical ucsc sats and act. Oh well, he’s going to Bard, got a 15k scholarship… its much closer to us (NYC), it was just that Cal was my alma mater and I was hoping for a UC experience for him. Maybe grad school!

sorry to hear about the rejection. my son was also denied but he never wanted to go to ucsc anyway. he’s happy to be going to cal poly slo. and talk about close…we live in slo!
so i wonder if the cal experience is the same as it was when you went there. my other son turned it down for ucla because he didn’t like the surrounding area. he’s very happy with his decision.
and yes…there is always grad school!
