or have any idea about when they start sending MFA acceptance/rejection letters?

No, I haven't heard anything from them yet, and it's driving me BONKERS!!! I've been accepted and rejected from all of my other schools I've applied to, and UCLA is the only one left...and the one I most want to go to.

The suspense is KILLING ME!!!

So yeah. We're totally in the same boat, dude.

fliktavirtuoso:
Have you heard anything or gotten a letter from DADA? Currently Im waitlisted. I found out there are 10 people on the waitlist. If the acceptees don't accept their offer by April 17th, then the Committee will review all the apps/portfolios again and chose the best candidate(s) to fill spot(s). BTW...Im nervous too...

DADA? Where's that? I didn't apply, so I'm not sure...

The schools I applied for were:

CalArts (MFA Experimental Animation): :(
San Francisco State University (Cinema): :) but I rejected them-they didn't have what I thought they did...
University of Illinois at Chicago: :( (i believe on a technicality, but I'm gonna let it go)
Rochester Institute of Technology: :) with a $4,500 merit scholarship :D

It's not so much nerves as anticipation...I'm currently trying to make a LOT of plans right now, and it would just make my life easier to know whether or not I got into UCLA so I can proceed to the next stage of...er, life planning.

fliktavirtuoso:

DADA: Department of Animation and Digital Arts at USC.

They have a pretty diverse prog ... as far as i have seen their curriculum. First year students dont do computers... they rely on traditional animation, practice drawing skills, and get to know the theory part of animation (i mean watching the classic, study american cinema and different type of animation, and so on). Second and third year get to work on computers and their own major to specialize in. All in all, they teach you the whole film process and training in every form of animation (traditional, stopmotion, CG, experimental, claymation ect).

AnimeFreak, just a couple of days more :D

So all three of us belong to united nations of animation. pretty cool. :)

btw fliktavirtuoso, where are u from?

UN of A...I kinda like that idea :D

Aah, ok...weird thing is, I never came across the DADA program at USC in my searches for animation grad schools. Maybe I glossed over it due to my thinking it was heavily laden in the CG side of animation. Ah, well. It sounds like a great program!

I'm from CT, actually pretty close to Yale University in New Haven...a long haul to Cali, ik, but I'd give up the fickle New England weather for the eternal spring of SoCal anyday!! And you, 3DACrazy?

I'm an international student from a distant place ... another continent.
let me cut the crap. :)

i'm from pak. and hmmm lahore's weather+traffic is pretty much the same as LA's. so no big differences. Ah but we dont have hollywood. LOL

3DACrazy: lol that's cool. Did you go to school in the US, in Pakistan, or someplace else?

Omg, I thought NY traffic was bad...I've NEVER experienced traffic like L.A. traffic...that's just friggin' NUTS!! It took my aunt and I two hours to go two miles...and that was at 2 in the afternoon on a Thursday trying to get from Burbank to Hollywood...it was a mess!! Too bad their public transportation system sucks...

The world becomes bigger and bigger as I travel it...I never thought it would, but it kinda has. It's like learning...the more answers you find, the more questions arise. The more you travel, the more you realize how much more there is yet to see. I did a study abroad last year and last year at this time I was in the Gambia visiting my b/f's father. I had never been south of the Equator before then, let alone Africa. It was amazing. I know that's not anywhere near Pakistan, I just thought I'd like to share :p

oop, correction...it took my aunt and I 45 minutes to go two miles, not two hours. it only seemed like that long. lol

I did my schooling from pak. I wanted to do some summer workshop in animation from USC but droped the idea later on.

Anyway, yeah the world is big if u realize and pretty small if u dont care. LOL but yeah travelling is my fav part too. And I hope u had loads of fun during your study abroad thing. What were you studying there? and which part of UK did u go to?

News flash: I finally got an email from UCLA today. Accepted!!!!! :D <bounces up="" and="" down=""></bounces>

Only bad thing about this is, I'm not sure if I'll be able to defer for a year to work. According to the graduate councelor I spoke to, they only offer 1st year Grad students loans; after the 1st semester, the department MIGHT consider you for scholarships, grants, assistanceships, etc. Which means, if I can't defer and work next year, I'll be running on empty for a year...which I REALLY do NOT want to do. Not that it makes me any less excited!!

3DACrazy: I studied at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston (hometown of Aardman Animation's Nick Park, creator of "Creature Comforts" and "Wallace and Grommit"), which is in the North West of England, about an hour north of Manchester and Liverpool. I studied animation the whole time I was there (mainly technique & production; a little CG gaming, but only very little--basically, it was a 3D Studio Max class). It was fantastic...and that's where I want to go next year to work, as well. Though that's partly b/c there's a bonnie lad who's got my heart and holds it there in Preston. ;)

Flik:
Congrats!! My advice to you...this is a one time opportunity. Take it!! Get the loan!! You dont have to pay for loan back til you leave school. Hopefully, if your talent shines through your 2nd year, you can get the grants, etc. And if your really good and network yourself with faculty, career recruiters and professionals druing your school years, you can payoff the loan in no time. Don't worry, be happy!! Go to UCLA!!

Now I need to USC's decision. Sigh!

WOW flit :D

i'm really happy for you. you finally got in your #1 school and its completely awesome watching your dreams come true. Well as AnimeFreak said ... there is nothing to think about. you take loans and you pay them back... :D so no big tension there.

so Congrats again and DONT EVER MISS THIS OPPERTUNITY!

hmmm...well how long do i have to wait now?

Yeah, I'm definitely going no matter what. It's not a matter of "if" but "when". If I can, I'm going to try to defer for a year to work, so I'm not completely living off loans for a year. But if I can't defer, I'll just go to UCLA and worry about the money later. :p I don't want to NOT go and then risk not getting in next year! I don't think I could take this kind of stress twice!!!

Thanks for all the support, guys!! Good luck with your letters!! I'll keep you posted.

Hey Flik:
Check with TTF Dept about deferral. Most schools honor it and most schools wont. I know that USC CNTV doesn't :(.

Also, check these 2 links:

Wow, thanks AnimeFreak! That really helps a lot.

Yeah, the grad councelor said that it's next to impossible, but I can try talking with the head of the department about it. I'm going to talk to the head of the Film/Animation/TV department on Monday (after I talk with the Financial Aid and Housing people) to see what I can do.

Erm, I haven't heard from you guys in a while...any word?

UCLA did not let me defer, so I guess I'll be heading to California this September. Hope to see you guys there!

I will be there in September as well! Looking foward to meeting you!

I got into MFA Animation for both schools and can't decide!!!

I felt more drawn to USC when I visited but UCLA is cheaper (I live in L.A. so I'm a resident)

Any thoughts?

Why was UCLA #1 for some of you?

aat:
Did you get an acceptance letter for USC or were you waitlisted at first? Have you decided if you are going to USC yet? Did they give you a great finaid package?

Im desperately waiting on USC to take me off their waitlist.
