Did CB make a mistake??

Hey guys

my friend thinks that on his writing score CB made a mistake

he got a 610 with a 10 on his essay and missed 11 questions. Since there are 49 he got 38 right which gave him a raw score of 35. CB converted the 35 into and MC score of 58. Shouldnt the MC score be higher??

nope..the ACTUAL curve is harsher than the book that cb puts out =(

according to kaplan a 35 raw score + a 10 essay is a 680??

for the LAST time, CB calculates scores independently for each test and curves it using a bell curve. if more people did well, your score drops.. thats what comparative scoring is all about. for ex. on math,
700=95%, 600=~82%, 500=~47%, and so forth. since a lot of ppl did well on march exam, the curve was 'worse' to maintain the bell-shaped distribution.

ppl complain about curves being hard, but bottom line is this. If you do better than others, your score will be higher. If you got a 700 and are complaining that the curve was hard, then how come 5 people out of a 100 did better than you on that same hard test.

soo that's how it works. My friend (icyfire) always says CURVE IS PRE-DETERMINED....cough maybe he should read confidential's post.

merudh123, the curve is pre-determined.

curve is predetermined as in the percentile marks for the numerical score? or as in the number of questions wrong/right needed for the numerical score?
