Hi I applied for housing for sfsu today and I noticed that people already got their confirmation emails a couple of days ago… does this mean I was too late? Will I not get a room? My top preference was (in order) Residence Hall, Towers Jr. Suite, then Towers Two-Bed. I really need the hall because it’s the cheapest and the only one I could really afford… apparently the deadline to apply for housing isn’t until May, but why are people already getting emails? Please tell me I have a chance…
Confirmation email for what? That they SFSU has received their housing application? Decisions about housing will not be made until the summer, so if your application is submitted and you get the confirmation, you will get housing.
You did apply very late for SFSU and they have very limited space. SFSU, unlike many other colleges, begins to accept housing applications once applications are submitted (unlike colleges where you have to be accepted into the college as well as accept that you will attend). Priority application enrollment period was from November till the end of January (but they do accept housing applications after that date). The priority license agreement most likely was sent to housing applicants in March. The priority deadline for those issued license agreements is in May. After May, they will be placed on a wait list. Housing confirmation starts in June.
If you just sent in your housing application, you will most likely be placed on a wait list. You should look into at their roommate/housing facebook page and get off campus housing.
This page describes their procedure -http://housing.sfsu.edu/content/apply-campus-student-housing
@Gumbymom , they have already sent out some confirmations of rooms – at least I know of one who applied not long after the portal opened. Submitted application back in November (non-refundable application) and submitted deposit in Feb or March (refundable if the person does not go there). We were advised last summer to just put in the housing application no matter what, and it looks like SFSU moves on this before the SIR deadline.
@ashley31836 - you should call the housing office and inquire how realistic your chance are at this point. They are very helpful there, and I believe they give priority to first-year students.
@bookguy: Thank you for the information. I was not aware that you could apply for housing prior to enrolling in the University. You learn something new every day…
