Ok so here's my dilemma. I'm currently ranked 1 in my class (out of 542) going into my Junior year (that ranking is on an unweighted scale, my weighted ranking is 3 of 542). I know it's a little early to be stressing about college, but I feel as though I might have blown my chances. Last year, my family basically collapsed, and with this collapse came monumental pressure on me. I was forced to live with my mom, and she got so mad that I spent all my time studying that she actually made me drop from Bio AP to Bio CP!!! I had no say in the matter!!! Ok course I easily got an A in the class, but it had me wondering...Will dropping one AP class completely kill my chances of going to an Ivy League school? (Please be nice with responses) :) Thank you for any advise!!!

No, of course not. Don’t be silly.

Well you blew your shot this time, but maybe if you work really hard in community college you could try to transfer to an ivy league.

Community college? Don’t you think that’s a little low? I mean even with dropping that class, I’m still #1 in my class.

Dear god, he’s joking. Are you sure you’re #1 in your class?

This next year is your most important. Go for the most challenging schedule you can handle and study hard for your SAT’s/ACT’s. The world has not come to an end HH.

Well, maybe not community college if you can take AP Bio a different year to make up for it. Harvard isn’t going to happen, but there’s nothing wrong with going to a state school.

Is there no common sense left in this world? Are you really dense enough to think that every single person who gets into any Ivy League school has taken AP Bio? Is this some hidden, looking-for-validation thing or what?

wow wow. I am trying really hard not to flip out on you. If I wasn’t banned recently for making fun of people like you then I would’ve made fun of you.

relax and enjoy the college acceptance letters you will get next year. 1 ap isn’t gonig to determine your future.

Mozess-AP Bio was just my example. In general I was just asking about the outcome if you drop an AP class.

PBush-yes I’m sure I’m still #1 in my class.

Michael2010-I’m discarding anything you say, you’re to pessimistic for my tastes. I’m 100% aware of plenty of schools (not state schools) that would take me in a hard beat. Plus I live in California where state schools like the UCs aren’t the end of the world.

OaksMom-I’m curious as to where you live (if you don’t mind me asking). I live in California and I live by two high schools that have the word Oaks in the title.

lol you live in thousand oaks?

btw you need to post your stats and not say you dropped one ap class.

LOL people like you are funny. “OMG I dropped an AP class! This is the biggest screw-up of my life!”

get
over
it.

and no, it will not decrease your chances of getting into your dream school. if you really think that, i don’t know what to say. you’re #1 in your class for f**** sake.

AOTP- haha actually I live in Camarillo, but I suppose that’s close enough and here are my stats:

Since I’m only going into my Junior year, I don’t have any SAT or ACT info to provide. :/

let us not kid each other; we are all aware that you are tooting your own horn. please stop.

LOL what a typical CC post.

To answer your question, no. Dropping 1 AP won’t blow your chances anywhere, Mr/Mrs. Valedictorian. I’ve known Yale admits who took only 1 AP class senior year. In fact, even though it was not your decision to drop it, it shows maturity. Colleges want to see that you’re challenging yourself; but contrary to popular belief, taking a full AP schedule can work against you, as this will look like you’re only interested in impressing the admissions committees.
