So yesterday I found out that my parents being a citizen doesn’t make me one too when a college contacted me and said that social security couldn’t confirm my citizenship status for my FAFSA.
I had sent this same FAFSA application to my early action but they didn’t tell me that anything was wrong with it and then I got rejected.
My best friend also applied early to a different school and she had a problem with her FAFSA and they contacted her to correct it and then she got in.
Is there a possibility that they were asking for me to fix this because they have decided to admit me and were making a financial aid package for me? The school went through all this trouble to contact social security and then ask me to fix it and report back to them and why would they do all that if they were going to reject me anyways?
Not what you asked, but if you are/were under 18 and live with a US citizen parent in the US then yes you are in fact automatically a citizen. It’s in your best interests to get proper proof of status, either through an n600 or passport.
@SJ2727 Thank you, I’m planning on giving my passport to social security and asking them to change my status. I was really shocked when I heard that I wasn’t a citizen because I’ve lived hear for 14 years and my parents became citizens 9 years ago
If you have a passport you’re a citizen (I presume you mean US passport), all that seems to have happened was your parents forgot to update SSA.
Anyway good luck with the application!
