Hi. I am 19 years old and graduated high school with a 2.7 GPA. I am attending a community college to save money, get my grades up, and then finish off my 4 year degree at a university. However, I think I might be off to a sluggish start. My majors have been all over the place. First, I wanted to major in mechanical engineering. I have lost my passion for that. Now, I want to do something in business. What should I do? The entire field of business confuses me. What is Accounting? What is Financing? What is Marketing? And so on.

In my very first semester last fall, I only took two courses consisting of 8 credits all together. They were Introductory to Computer Science and Introductory to Psychology. I finished that semester with a 2.2 GPA. I got lazy, clearly. This current winter semester, I am in two more courses which are 8 credits. Those were Intermediate Algebra and Political Science. I am doing average in those two right now. I am planning on taking an English class online this summer.

So in my first year of college, I have only taken 16 credits. I am disappointed in myself because the whole concept of college is overwhelming and confusing. There are numerous paths a student can take and that just messes with me. I want to do well in life. I want to work hard. I want to make not only my family proud, but myself also.

Please help me. I have had two meetings before with the advisors at my college and they do a very poor job in clarifying these questions for me. I don't want to go back a third time.

Thank you and feel free to ask me any information I left out.
