Graduation is less than two months away! The only college I applied to is well the most realistic choice- an instate public university, which is UGA and got in. I know plenty of people who applied to so many different colleges, and I basically had to narrow all my choices down. Though UGA is a good school, I felt that I had to make it a choice because of money even though it's not my top school. I wanted to go to University of Florida, because it has its own medical school and much closer to home. Out of state tuition though made me reluctant to even apply and the top choice in GA would be Emory University because of the liberal college atmosphere and its prestige. My parents combine make less than $25,000 a year and I simply don't want to put any unnecessary financial burdens on them. I applied to all kinds of scholarships, but have already been rejected to most of the international ones. My stats are ok. I'm a first generation Vietnamese American female and am in several academic clubs, volunteering, and working part time in family business. 5th out of 619 and plan to take the ACT next month since my SATs weren't too good-1870 (another reason why I didn't apply to the other schools) . I plan to transfer after my first year at UGA and apply to Emory and UF, since I feel the need to explore my choices and be sure what I wanted to do, but is this a good idea?

It’s too late to change anything now, so there’s no sense worrying about it.

Well I feel like you should have applied to whatever schools you wanted to and applied for financial aid: your parents’ income is low enough that you would get significant help and Emory has a program for people who make less than 50K where they will make sure you graduate with less than 10K in debt. It’s too late now but go to UGA and if you like it, great, but if not, go ahead and apply to transfer to Emory or UF or whatever school you want without worrying about finances.

well, coming from a high school junior who’s scared he won’t get accepted to ANY college, you should be happy you got in to where you did, and I’m sure the UGA is a nice school.

You should keep your options open, try out UGA, who knows, you might love it. and if you don’t like it, then transfer. Simple as that. Just keep transfering in mind and I hope you come to the best decision.

UGA sounds like a great option to me. If you’re willing to seek out resources, UGA can offer a lot. Almost everyone who gets Ramsey or Foundation Scholarship turns down Ivies to take advantage of the opportunities UGA can offer. Now, I understand you didn’t get these scholarships (very few people do), but it is certainly proof of UGA’s resources. Also, greatest college town ever? Betcha.

You can’t go back in time and change things, and you can’t waste your time looking at the past. So accept the fact that you’re going to UGA and move forward. Enjoy your next four years.
