did i mess up - fafsa/css

Well for my FAFSA/CSS I only put my mothers tax return information because I don't speak to my real father. Actually haven't spoken to him in two years.
But he pays child's support and thats that.

Should I have put something?
Perhaps put his tax return information?

My next question is that my mother has two additional children from my step father, But he does not live with us because he is often on the road for months at a time (truck driver). Should I have put his information since there IS instability? He does not contribute to househould bills.

Someone help?
Don't really want to get in trouble

does your stepfather earn money?
sounds like he is part of the household, just because his job takes him away from home doesn't mean he vanished

The child support that your father pays to your mother should be included as income on FAFSA.

In addition your father will need to fill out the non-custodial information for the profile. Since your mother is receiving child support, it is very unlikely that you will get a non-custodial waiver. without your father's information, your financial aid paperwork is not complete and you may not get a package (vicious circle).

I would suggest that you get the forms to your dad asap so they can be turned into the college board. In addition you will also have to submit his tax forms and w-2s

In addition, your stepfather's income will be used to determine your EFC and financial aid package to the extent which your mother has "benefitted from the marriage" (this is especially true at Dartmouth). So colleges will also want the FA information of your stepfather including tax forms/w-2 in order to assess your FA.

For the CSS Profile, they require a Noncustodial Profile, which I think is poo. I don't talk to my dad, and he doesn't pay child support and yet the college board and all of my schools have been blowing me up about this thing.

Even though child support is included, they still expect your dad to help pay for college so he needs to feel out the Noncustodial PROFILE. If he can't you need a "non interested third party" ie GC, to make a waiver for you.

If your mother remarried, your step father's info must be added to FAFSA numbers, it does not matter even if you mom signed up prenup agreement. If you live with your mom and step father/ whether he is on the road a lot or not/ both their tax forms should go to FAFSA.
If you father is remarried his and his wife info should be mentioned in SSC or if schol requires non custodial parent statement.
If your mom receives child support, there is column on FAFSA where you will put those numbers/put the real ones, not what it is suppose to be or defined by court, just exactly what you received/.
Some school will use all 4 parents info, some will choose only two natural parents- it is really depends on school politics.
I would also recommend to call to your schools and talk to each fin aid officer and discuss your family situation and what do they need to make your file complete.

Each school has a different requirement for getting a non custodial waiver. for many schools just getting a 3rd party letter from your GC is not enough

geez this stuff is so confusing ;/

Alright so let me see if I get this straight.

Step 1 - Enter Step dad's income tax info into FAFSA
Step 2 - Enter child support info into FAFSA
Step 3 - Enter Real Fathers income Tax on CSS.
Step 4 - Provide all documentation .. Send in Step Fathers Tax report. Fathers Tax Report. Mothers Tax Report.

Can I edit/resend the CSS to my selected school? Because I've already sent it once?

anything else?
