Did I ruin my chances of getting into a good ivy university?

So the semester end is nearing and right now is finals week. Looking at my grades, I am positive I will not be able to get an A in my Algebra II Honors. I only a freshman but I take my future really seriously even though some things may not reflect it. My 4 other classes (not including sports) are all A’s and one of them is also another honor’s class. Do I still have a chance with good universities?

What does “not an A” mean? A-minus? F?

Focusing on a specific athletic conference is pointless as a freshman. Do your best now and reevaluate colleges later.

What’s a bad Ivy? All of them can offer some of the best education in the world.

You can have a 4.0 tons of AP or IB, a perfect score on the SAT and ACT and still get rejected from the ivy league. I wouldn’t base my whole future on getting accepted.

To make it clear, I will most likely receive a B in my Algebra II class

There is no way to ever guarantee yourself into getting into an ivy, and especially not HYP (someone at my school has perfect everything and was denied). As a freshman, while setting high goals is always great, you shouldn’t be pressuring yourself and being overly anxious about getting into an ivy. Although, to answer your question, it would depend on your major and your ECs. Ivies will look for great students but also great, well rounded people.

I took Alg 2 Trig Honors in my sophomore year and got a B in it as well. I applied to two Ivies (Comp Sci Major/Concentration)

Cornell ED (Denied)
Brown RD (no answer yet)

I know someone at a HYP who got more than one B his first two years and to be honest while he had great SATs and a minor talent in music he is not extraordinary in any way.

You are a freshman. Relax and take a breath. Please don’t spend your entire HS career worried about getting into an Ivy League college. It is fine to be serious about your future, but don’t forget to live in the present. Do you best in the most rigorous course-load you can handle. But also spend time with friends, get involved in activities you care about, and enjoy HS life. When the time comes see where your grades, standardized tests etc. stand and apply to appropriate colleges.

As a poster noted above, you can have perfect grades, perfect standardized tests and still not get into an Ivy school. But the good news is that there are so many wonderful and amazing colleges out there and so many of them can take you wherever you want to go in life.

I think you are looking at things backwards. You are not attempting to create an Ivy League student like some Frankenstein’s monster. You are a person who will be applying to colleges in 3 years. At that point you will have taken courses, discovered your likes and dislikes, participated in activities and developed interests. These things will shape you and help you along the path of taking you to another path…college. I can’t say whether or not a B in a freshman honors Algebra 2 course will affect an Ivy school’s decision. You have such a small body of work at this time to consider. My suggestion would be to do your best, prepare yourself well (algebra 2 as a freshman is a good start) and enjoy yourself. In 3 years you can apply where you will and find out what happens. You may find yourself having very different opinions in 3 years.

like honestly, like yeah
