I'm a girl, well aware that Dartmouth, like all Ivy leagues, rejects perfect students with a 4.8 GPA. In middle school, I got all straight A+'s and was recommended for all honors. I went to a private Catholic HS for half the year, but due to depression that was caused by middle school bullying, I got A's and B's. I went back to public half way through the year though due to the commute. At the public school, I was forced to drop down to CP math and CP english b/c the curriculum was not the same. Still depressed and slacking, I finished the year with a 3.5UW GPA, 3.8 weighted. I hate myself. Now I am going to work my butt off to get a 4.0 the next three years, like I am highly capable of. I am taking all honors except for Algebra 2. Next year I hope to take AP English, History, and Physics, and Spanish, along with honors calc. If I do achieve my plan, with a 4.0 the next three years, will I have a chance again? I'll do whatever I can, even go without sleep to get all A's. I currently volunteer at a soup kitchen and nursing home, and have a job at a supermarket. I kickbox, and will do track in the spring. I am in literary club, Time out for Kids, and environmental club.

im guessing you are a HS sophmore?? if so, get off CC and come back when ur a sr.

First off going without sleep to get an A is not a good a idea (I can speak from personal experience), yes grades are important, but if you start homework at a reasonable time (lets say you get home late from ECs and get home at 8 and start right away, earlier would be ideal) there is no reason you can not be in bed by midnight.

That being said it could go either way. Also keep in mind it is very hard to increase your GPA when you just increased your class rigor. Again speaking from personal experience, it is almost impossible to do, I doubled my honors classes last year and barely kept my grades the same as freshman year.

Calm down, the stress is not good. Focus on doing well and come back on here when you are a junior.

Good luck!

Ignore Sonic, someone is just irritated today! He has a point in that youre still a sophmore, but if you ask me its a good thing that you’re already looking at colleges. Don’t beat yourself up over your grades, you still have plenty of time to get them up. If you’re worried about one test for the next three years… high school will be really sucky. You should just take the hardest classes possible, try to do your best, study your BUTT off for the SAT/ACT (take both!), and once you have a better idea of your statistics, youll be able to judge whether or not you can apply to Dartmouth with a good shot. You have ruined nothing so far… if anything you can use your experience as an essay or communicate your circumstance to the school.
Have fun and chillaxxx!!!

You need to calm down and breathe. The stress of getting into college is not worth being unhappy or ruining your life. You will be fine, I promise
