a 3.8 at my school is above any of the accepted averages at harvard, princeton, or yale. if your prep school is as rigorous as mine, then youre fine (yes i have taken into account legacies and such....virtually no one escapes without one B)

There are definitely people 4.0's at my school, though. I don't go to a school like those New England prep schools, but mine (at the risk of sounding cocky) is the best in the midwest. (a rhyme!) For Junior and Senior years, I'm expecting to be in the top 5 of 100, definitely. I just screwed up sophomore year majorly (B, B, B+, A-, A, A, A). Which is like, top 20% but yea.. not good.

ECs, in order of importance:
Art (9-12) national awards, submitting portfolio and probably a supp. rec from teacher
Swimming (9-12) captain, state qualifier X3
Yearbook (11-12) should be editor in chief next year.
Charity Clubs (10-12) I should be pres. of one next year, and I've also founded and co-president another one.
Culture Club (10-12) Should be pres next year.

They're great, but subpar for Princeton's standards. What makes me think that? Just from talking to other people who attend here I guess...

Yoda says, fine you are. EC you need. Godlike- you need not.

Your GPA doesn't annihilate your chance. It is quite ok. Your ECs are a little sub-par for Princeton. It's good, but doesn't stand out from all those applications with stuff like "volunteering at Ghana" ect. Your SATs are GREAT, so you will stand a chance.

"Your ECs are subpar"

I go here, and honestly, not everybody was a freaking superstar in high school. Don't stress about it, you'll be in the mix. That's as far as anybody can really control in these kind of admissions. More than anything, it depends on the quality of your essays and how clearly you convey who you are and what excites you.
