So basically, I've been aiming for a high tier university like Cornell or UPenn. However, my freshman year grades weren't the best they could have been.

Bio H: 84
Geo H: 91
English CP: 91
World History CP: 91
Algebra 2 CP: 97
Gym: 95

Keep in mind that I have one extracurricular (volunteering for 40 hours at my sunday school) and that I am looking to go into finance. So are my chances to get into Cornell, UPenn, or NYU ruined?

At my school our grading scale is
A 95-100
B 88-94
C 77-87
D 70-76
F 0-69
which means your grades were pretty low and I heard that colleges aren’t big fans of volunteer service that deals with your own church. With that being said, you may be able to get into an Ivy if you work extremely hard to improve your grades and collect a lot more volunteer service, but right now your chances aren’t so great.

chill out, one B’s not gonna kill you, ur only a freshman anyway, just try to improve

Bs in all of your subjects besides gym and math is not ideal. You do need to raise your grades next year, also the lack of ECs will be an issue (become more involved).
