So I think there is an error in my GPA calculation..can someone confirm this?

BTW - our school has weighted GPA out of 6 and five for regular classes

These are my final grades -

AP Lang - A
APUSH = B
AP BIO - B
PE - A (does not count in GPA)
Hnrs JOurnalism - A
Hnrs PreCalc - A
Hnrs French 4 - A

So according to me (5+5+6+6+6+6)/ (6 classes since not counting gym) = 5.667

However, my report card states 5.5. Why am i getting different outcome? Am I doing something wrong or is my school. BTW, the 5.5 is only supposed to be for that particular semester.....

Please help me figure out what's wrong...I don't want to approach the school and then look like a fool because I was miscalculating something!

Also, in our school percentages do not matter for GPA...although I wish they did since my B was like 89.3!... =/ hmph.

Ask your guidance counselor, he/she will be able to help you far more than anyone on this site in this matter.

Yeah unfortunately its summer so it’s hard to get a hold of anyone! But is this generally the correct way to calculate it…like is my 5.667 correct?

Yes, 34/6 does equal 5.667.

Ughh…i never knew computer automated calculators make errors too!

Any GPA over 5 must be a joke.

^Not really since theirs weighted is out of 6

Yeah ours is actually out of six not five like most schools. So generally its still the same scale but only with an extra one added its not like i took more classes or anything.

I was for the most part joking.

Lol…any other opinions as to what might have gone wrong or if I am wrong in the way im calculating it? Most GPA’s are calculated based on grades averaged in each individual class right?

BUMP pleaseeeeeeee…

The quality points are probably different than you are assigning them. At my school, a flat B is a 3.0. If you use the same ratio, at your school, a flat B would be a 4.5. Therefore,

6 + 4.5 + 4.5 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 33
33/6 = 5.5

Comes out perfectly.

hmm then why is it often said that getting an “B” in an honors class is equvalient to getting a A in a regular class…because people often say taht at my school…so i dont seem to understand why the 4.5 would come into play…

Also, I just checked my course offerings book and this is the scale:

Honors Grade Weighting
A 6.0
B 5.0
C 4.0
D 2.0
F 0.0

The only time honors weighting does not apply is if the grade is lower than a C…which is clearly not my case. Sorry to keep bumping this but I am like dying here because i want to know why this is happening!!!
