So I think there is an error in my GPA calculation..can someone confirm this?

BTW - our school has weighted GPA out of 6 and five for regular classes

These are my final grades -

AP Lang - A
APUSH = B
AP BIO - B
PE - A (does not count in GPA)
Hnrs JOurnalism - A
Hnrs PreCalc - A
Hnrs French 4 - A

So according to me (5+5+6+6+6+6)/ (6 classes since not counting gym) = 5.667

However, my report card states 5.5. Why am i getting different outcome? Am I doing something wrong or is my school. BTW, the 5.5 is only supposed to be for that particular semester.....

Please help me figure out what's wrong...I don't want to approach the school and then look like a fool because I was miscalculating something!

Also, in our school percentages do not matter for GPA...although I wish they did since my B was like 89.3!... =/ hmph.

No it does not. Honors is also a 6 and that is for sure because I managed straight a’s last semsester and received an overall gpa of 6.0 out of 6 on my last report card!

Your math is right, but as colleges usually recalculate your GPA and/or look at the transcript more than the GPA itself, it shouldn’t make much of a difference.

It will make a difference for class ranking and val/sal. I think you should approach the school- perhaps talk to your GC first to get her/his take on it. Schools have a responsibility to get it right. And besides, you’ve earned the extra .16-it could make a difference in a scholarship perhaps.

Yeah it will make a drastic difference in my rank! especialyl since i was at #3 before…

So you guys think im right? It is actually a 5.667 right? because i was asking my dad and he was like well maybe the average the a’s and b’s seperate…so it would become like 6+5=11/2…which is 5.5.

That doesn’t match up with the way my previous GPA’s were calculated…ahh!
