Did not get the IB diploma

Hey guys,

I am feeling pretty down right now because I did not manage to get the IB diploma.
I messed up my higher level exams and got a 3 each in Math, Chem and Physics. I needed a twleve in total...

My standard level socres added up to 16.
Total 26 with 1 point in TOK/EE

I am so afraid right now as I don't know what to do, my life has stopped.
I got admitted into USC and I really want to go to that school but I am so scared that they will take away my admissions.

Any advice?
Help?

I am thinking of re-taking the tests, but If I still can get into USC then it would be great.
Oh gosh I am so disappointed and my parents are too.
The one thing I don’t want it my parents to feel ashamed.

Should I send an email to USC and explain?

Another fact is that it was my school’s first year doing IB and they called us “the guinea pigs” for IB and so a lot of things were messed up and dis-organized, plus many teachers had no experience because our school has been doing A-levels for the past years.

Should I call USC?

IB (and AP scores) are not used to determine admissions, so you will not receive a rescind letter from USC. As a personal example, my sister did not get a rescind letter from duke after she failed three of her five senior level AP exams.

Retake the tests if you want s diploma, but it will not matter for your college acceptance

There are a few incoming Trojans I know of who also didn’t get their IB diploma. They seem disappointed, but they’re not freaking out about it. It seems as though USC won’t mind.

I am so sorry. I am sure you will be taking your seat in the fall at USC. Don’t be ashamed. No need to feel ashamed. You worked hard. Your hard work will be rewarded at some point.

IB highers essentially give you college credit. (Usually 1st and some 2nd year classes)

They will not count towards your acceptance unless you only did the IB.

Will any colleges (including Ivies and other top tier schools) rescind an acceptance because the student didn’t get the IB diploma or a certain number of points for the IB?

Thats what I am worried about

But for the past two years I have only done the IB course

But thank you guys for the response. I hope its true and hopefully I can go to USC and just start fresh.
But still should I explain or say something to USC?

You only have to send your scores if you are requesting college credit for your IB courses.

Do not send scores.

Shouldn’t affect your college acceptance.

At our IB high school, if you don’t pass your IB diploma, then you still get a regular high school diploma.

There’s no need to explain anything to anyone.

Good luck next year!

I think while they may not rescind you, it may depend on several factors. You must have been admitted based on other things like ec, essay, etc, scores. My only worry for u is that if you did send in your predicted grades, and they differ greatly, that may be a drawback. So if u did send, what were the predicted grades? Also, I believe u should send in these results, as your supposed to.

My predicted grade was 35 and so it was a huge difference with my final grades. But I did request to send my scores already like half a month ago because there was a deadline for sending the scores to universities i think it was 1st of july for US universities so yea. But then at that time I didnt realize it would be that bad.

So if it was a huge difference in scores, maybe I should send a email to admissions?
I don’t live in the US so it is difficult to see them in person :s

i am going to Viterbi as a Mechanical engineer

If you previously told admissions that you were an IB Diploma candidate and/or provided predicted scores, you should inform them that you did not receive your IB Diploma and that your actual scores differed from your predicted scores.

However, as US universities don’t really care all that much about IB scores when it comes to admissions, you’re unlikely to have your admission rescinded.

Basically, you should tell them because it’s the right thing to do and you’re supposed to tell them if any of the information you included in your application changes, but it’s not likely to make a difference.

Viterbi? I’ve never heard of that school, or did you mean viterbo in Wisconsin?

I guess it’s better to tell them, and while it’s unfortunate that your hls are the ones which were lacking and they are related to your major, I dont think they will rescind you, if u get them to understand and convince them that you would be able to maintain your gpa in college.
Anyway, your grades are only a part of the application process so I don’t think you should worry too much, just email adcom.
