I submitted my common application for Brown a few days ago. I filled out every single question I saw on the writing supplement and all the member questions, even double checking what I had to do. However, when I checked Brown’s website today, I noticed that the section saying what must be completed included:

"Complete the Science/Engineering statements if you have indicated an interest in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics or Physics. "

and then three additional questions.

I saw this nowhere on my common application, and I put my major as Applied Mathematics. Now I don’t know what to do. Should I email it to them? Is this still included in the common app? I’m so confused):

email your admissions counselor and ask.

@collegebound I did, but I assume they are all on break until after the application deadline.

Yes, I believe those essays are still included in the CA. You should write the essays now and email them to your counselor before the deadline so that it’s apparent that you completed your application before Jan 1.

Nonononono everybody stop. The question didn’t show up because they don’t expect you to write that extra essay if you put applied mathematics, as opposed to mathematics. I applied to Brown ED as an applied mathematics concentrator, didn’t write the extra essays, and got in. Hope that reassures you. :)

@WuLiMaster thank you so much! I already did it so I might as well send it (I guess?). But that’s such a relief knowing I didn’t just mess up and miss a question. :)

If applied math does not require the extra essay I wouldn’t send it.
