Hey all,
Since the launch of the new Common Application website, there have been numerous changes to the way things work in the college application process. I was looking up some college supplementary essays and according to the Common App website, it looks like Brown University isn’t requiring “supplements” in the “Admission Process” section but in the “Admission” section it says that ESSAYS are REQUIRED. I also checked on the Brown website but it seems like they haven’t been updated yet. Can someone please clue me into how this works? Thanks!

I can’t give you specifics about how the Common App works, but what I can tell you is that Brown always requires supplemental essays, and that admissions always releases those essay prompts pretty late in the process. You could probably search in this forum for the last couple summers to see just how late in August the essay prompts are released.

Yeah I don’t see any additional questions for PLME. Either they got rid of them or haven’t added them yet.

Brown supplemental questions are up on the Comm App website.

These are the essay questions:
- Why are you drawn to the area(s) of study you indicated in our Member Section, earlier in this application? If you are undecided or not sure which Brown concentrations match your interests, consider describing more generally the academic topics or modes of thought that engage you currently. (150 word limit)
- Tell us where you have lived - and for how long - since you were born; whether you’ve always lived in the same place, or perhaps in a variety of places. (100 word limit)
- We all exist within communities or groups of various sizes, origins, and purposes; pick one and tell us why it is important to you, and how it has shaped you. (150 word limit)
- Why Brown? (200 word limit)

Ahah! Brown is now trying to make sure the applicants from underrepresented North Dakota, are really “from there” and not just wealthy families just moved to improve Juniors chance of getting into an Ivy, lol.
