I applied to CU Boulder as my #1 choice as an in-state student HOWEVER I did not take Chemistry or Physics in high school which the requirements for the college of arts and sciences say is REQUIRED. My counselor did not tell me about this, since I have exceeded the requirements for my HIGH SCHOOL’s science credits.
I have a 3.5 GPA 26 ACT 300+ Service Hours President of National Social Studies Honor’s Society and have taken 12+ AP and Honor’s Classes
Do I still have a chance of getting in? I’m currently a senior and there really isnt a way for me to take Chem or Physics since i’m now in my 2nd semester.
Will i be differed or rejected??
HELP
It also says that 1 course is a year high school course or a semester college course. Can you take a semester of chemistry or physics at a local college in the spring?
I agree, I would look into a CC or local college course and if do you enroll, let CU know ASAP.
I would also talk to your guidance counselor to see if there is a chance that one of the classes you have taken will suffice. I’m not sure why a solid student such as you bypassed both chem and physics.
Unless the high school is a low performing one where few graduates go beyond the local community college, it seems odd that a college-prep student would not have been told of the need to complete chemistry or physics (preferably both) for admission to college (especially state universities).
Which sciences have you taken? I am thinking you must have done Earth sci, Bio, and Environemental. The fourth? I think you have to apply, and in the additional comments section say you will be taking chemistry at comm college this summer. Then hope for,the best.
One of my D’s friends skipped her senior year of HS and applied early to a college. Even though she was short 2 required classes, the college gave her a conditional acceptance. She had to take those 2 classes during her first year of college.
If you are a highly qualified candidate otherwise, with great letters of recommendation, you might be able to work with the admissions office on a conditional acceptance. Go ahead and ask. Then at least you will know and can start to make alternate plans now.
It is amazing to me that any self proclaimed college bound kid declares their counsellor was at fault for failing to take something as basic as chem and physics? You had to go out of your way to do marine bio and enviro, really. How were your AP scores to this point?
I would try for the provisional acceptance too. Perhaps you could take one of the new online dual enrollment courses from a university? Be sure to talk with your counselor first before you do that.
Try to take chemistry regular, at least, perhaps via an online high school program, and have your counselor agreement on it so that s/he adds it to your list of 2nd semester courses.
