I am currently a high school senior who took the December SAT Subject Tests. Here are all of my statistics:
GPA: 3.97
SAT December 2018: 1480 (730 EBRW, 750 Math)
SAT March 2019: 1530 (750 EBRW, 780 Math)
SAT Subject Tests:
May 2019: Chemistry 640, Math Level 2 650
November 2019: Chemistry 710, Math Level 2 670
December 2019: Chemistry 580, Math Level 2 720
I know. I was hoping to raise the Math score, which I did, but it came at the expense of Chemistry. I have already used the score send feature on College Board’s site to send all of my scores and I can’t cancel it. I’m panicking now, because I applied to pretty top-tier universities and now I wish I hadn’t sent the scores to begin with.
Does anyone have any advice regarding what I should do?
Please do not grill me on my poor test performance; I’ve blamed myself enough.
I believe some colleges have “superscores” for subject tests as well, where they only look at the highest scores for each subject test. You shouldn’t spend time worrying about this, it’s already out of your hands!
I am hoping that you also applied to safeties where you would be happy. If not, get the applications in ASAP.
There are a lot of very good universities. I have worked with many people who graduated near the top of their class at schools ranked somewhere between 50 and 150 and have been very successful in life. A few went on to Ivy League or equivalent schools for graduate school. Some are really top experts in their field.
You can get into very good schools without any SAT Subject tests at all. Your 1530 on the regular SAT is excellent. 710 Chemistry and 720 Math 2 are quite good also.
In terms of advice I would say: Make sure that you have applied to at least two safety schools, relax, and have some eggnog over the holidays.
I know you already got your answer, but I feel like I should just say that you really shouldn’t worry regardless. The colleges will see that you excelled in many areas, and so they likely will not mind a mishap - I did really bad on my Math 2 test (610, ikr?) but I got a 750 in chem, a 1420 on my SAT, and a 28 on my ACT. Only Math 2 and ACT are bad, but the good tests along with a solid application probably make me not so bad, and you did better than me. Don’t worry
You probably already heard this but I’m sorry to hear this but you can’t do anything anymore. However, the colleges you applied to will see the other scores, gpa’s, and essays which will show them your eagerness. I would recommend applying to some safety schools. Also keep in mind that you can always transfer.
Honestly, your GPA and SAT scores are both very high. I wouldn’t freak out about your subject test scores. I know everything probably feels heightened but assuming the look at your highest scores then they aren’t bad (720M, 710C). From personal experience, I know how the chemistry exam is challenging and a 710 is by no means a bad score. Besides, colleges only consider subject test scores as if they’re checking off a box, unlike the rest of the application.
