Did the financial aid office make a mistake?

I just got an email a few hours ago from the office of financial aid telling me that I need to complete exit loan counseling because I have "dropped below half-time enrollment." Do they know something I don't? Because my registration page still says I am registered for 13 hours, and last time I checked you need 12 hours to be considered full-time. Is it possible they've misplaced my records, or because I changed my major to business, that maybe they are confused?

I got the same email too! But I’m an Engineering major registered for 16 hours… Anyone know an answer?

That is so strange because i’m afraid my loans/grants won’t be released now. I plan on calling in the morning, but it seems strange that the financial aid office would make a mistake like this.

iambored10, did you recently transfer into engineering? If so, then I wonder if this has to do with transferring into a new major.

The email is probably for the summer semester.

I called and an automated voice said that email was sent in error and they are in the process of fixing it and will email us again notifying us.

To whoever received the error, is the exit loan counseling requirement still on your “What do I complete” CASH page on the financial aid website?

I got the same email as well even though I’m enrolled for 15 hours. Then I got another email titled Follow-up to OSFS Exit Counseling Message that says this:

Dear UT Student,

You recently received an e-mail regarding exit counseling for
your Federal Stafford, Federal Direct, and/or Federal Perkins
loans. It may have been sent in error. If you have an exit
counseling requirement our office will contact you with a
follow up e-mail.

The requirement will be removed from your CASH page shortly
after you have received this notice. Our office genuinely
apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.
If you still have questions regarding the situation please
contact our office at (512) 475-6282 for assistance.

Yeah I got the same thing, but the requirement to complete exit counseling on my CASH page is still there. Is yours there?

Sorry to diverge a bit from this thread, but exactly how generous is the aid at UT? I’m thinking about applying there. That’s pretty scary that they would send out an email like that. Best of wishes and I hope it gets resolved.

The exit counseling requirement is still on my CASH page. Anyone else’s?

@bork, check out the thread that was recently bumped up. I’ve replied there.

The operator says that the email was an error and to completely disregard it. I think they said they will even send out a follow-up email. So, yes it was a mistake. You will receive the aid promised.

Yes I realize it was sent in error but the email said that the requirement on the CASH page will be removed shortly. It’s been 5 days and still has not been removed.

Do you guys still have your MPN requirement on the “What I need to complete” page?

I did it in May and still haven’t had anything update on it… ended up just redoing it today.

Mine disappeared in like 3 days after doing it. For the federal direct ones, right?

^Correct. It’s the only requirement that’s left as well.

Oh okay so i’m not the only one who still has the direct loan exit counseling requirement? The email said it would be removed “shortly” after receiving the email, but they didn’t specify how long after. I don’t want this error to have any impact on my financial aid.

Still there for me too.

It’s been nearly two weeks since they sent that email and that damn requirement is still on my CASH page. WTK, am I right in assuming it’s still that way for you too? It was about a week ago. I’m tired of seeing this because I don’t want it to screw up disbursement in any way. Has anyone called about this yet? I’m thinking i’ll call tomorrow.

It’s still there for me too, but I wouldn’t worry about it. According to my tuition bill, it still sees me as receiving the same amount of financial aid, so I don’t foresee any problems regarding disbursement.

Where do you see the amount of financial aid you are expected to receive on the tuition bill? Mine says I currently owe the amount, but at the top in green it says no further action is required until my financial aid is applied.
